NEVENS FAMILY.

EDWARD PEREAR NEVENS, son of Asa, son of Rob- ert, Jr., son of Robert of Ireland, b. Dec. 21, 1807, Northampton, Mass .; d. Apr. 27, 1870, Boston, Mass .; m. Sep. 12, 1831, Roy., Julia P., dau. John Dix, b. Feb. 22, 1805, Reading, Mass .; d. Dec. 24, 1867, Malden, Mass. Mr. Nevens was a wool merchant, and came to Roy. to open a wool depot about 1830. He had a store in Royalton village, and in 1838 he bought a place of John Francis. The next year he sold Forest Adams the old store, and it would seem that he built a store on the west side of the road, between that and the railroad, which he leased to Geo. W. Adams and N. M. Russ in 1857 for eight years. He went to Melrose, Mass., but was in Bethel in 1864, and the next year in Malden. He failed in business in Roy., owing to his indors- ing notes for woolmen. He was P. M. in Roy. and much inter- ested in military affairs. He went to Boston to work for the firm of -Whitten, Burdette & Young. He was one of the select- men in Melrose, Mass. He opened a store in S. Boston.

Mr. Noble came to Royalton in 1783 probably, as he bought a small farm on the river of Comfort Sever in February of 1784, which he kept until April, 1895,- when he sold it to Nathan Stone. He was not listed after 1794, and must have gone to Bethel about that time. It has been said that his father and mother came to Roy. and died here, but it is probably a mistake, and they doubtless lived with him in Bethel, especially as they are said to have come to Vermont in 1799, when he was in Bethel. They are buried in Bethel, where Nehe- miah and his wife are buried. James, the son of Nehemiah, was

Jan. 31, 1858; she m. (2) Oct. 21, 1824, Am- brose Kibby of Randolph. Lieut. Packard rem. from Barnard to Roy. in 1797. He settled on Broad Brook, and owned the place where A. J. B. Robinson later lived. He had 106 acres in 2 L. A., and later bought over 100 acres in the same lot. His son Silas seems to have lived on the A. J. B. Robinson place. Mr. Packard sold small farms to Wright Clark and Isaac Park- hurst. On Aug. 1, 1808, he advertised two sons, Benjamin and Silas, who had run away, and offered one cent reward. He de- scribed Benjamin as tall, slim, and apt to stammer, Silas as hav- in black eyes, dark brown hair, and as being small of his age, then fifteen. Silas seems to have returned to the fold, and prob- ably Benjamin also, as he married three years later in Royalton. See "Revolutionary Roll."
