He was something of a genius, and spent his spare time in the construction of a glass globe with large balls of colored yarn inside. The globe had only a small aperture, and it puzzled the spectator to know how so large balls came inside of it.

HISTORY OF ROYALTON, VERMONT
Viall and his brother William bought in 1870 the Daniel Havens farm on the First Branch, and in 1873 William sold out his in- terest to Charles B. About ten years later Mr. Viall sold this farm to George Ward, and rem. to S. Roy., and settled on the place where Isaac Shepard had lived, and where his widow still resides. He was a dealer in live stock and other products of the farm, and soon came to be a wealthy man, loaning money on mortgages and holding considerable real estate. HISTORY OF ROYALTON, VERMONT
July 10, 1787, and then seemed to be in Roy .; so also in deeds of Mar. and Apr., 1790, when he sold his first purchase and invested in E. 35 L. A. It is quite likely that he returned to Conn. for a time, as he is not listed until 1793. The first census was taken in June, 1790, and his name does not appear. He cleared the farm in E. 35 L. A. and it has remained in the hands of the family until recent years. Like the majority of the early settlers he had great perseverance and an unconquerable will. What he set himself to do he accomplished if possible. He reared there a large family of children, whose descendants have scattered over the country from ocean to ocean, and carried with them much of the sturdy manhood characteristic of the first settler of the name in Royalton. The children were prob- ably all born in Roy. except John.
