DEACON. Cass county, is an 1884 farmers' postoffice.


DECATUR. The county seat of Adams county, is a growing incorporated town of 2,500 inhabitants, located on the St Mary's river and T C & St L and G R & I R R's, 21 miles south of Ft Wayne, 138 northeast of Indianapolis and 70 north of Richmond. Decatur is a prosperous com- mercial and manufacturing town, supplied with good county buildings, handsome churches, good graded schools, 2 banks and 2 weekly newspapers -- the Democrat and Journal. The Burt House is the most popu- lar of its 3 liotels, and is beyond doubt one of the best hotels in northern Indiana. Dick C Townsend, the genial host, is too well known to need any praise. The manu- facturing establishments located here in- clude 3 saw mills, 2 stirrup factories, tile yard, 3 flour mills, an iron foundry,3 stave factories and 2 planing mills. DELPHI. This is a growing, pros- perous town of 3,000 inhabitants, the county seat of Carroll county, located on Deer creek, at its confluence with the Wabash river, 17 miles northeast of Lafayette, 64 northwest of Indianapolis, and 20 south- west of Logansport. Its transportation facilities comprise the W St L & P and Air Line Div L N A & C Rys. This is a hand- some, well built town, and said to have more wealth than any town of like size in the State. Delphi has good county build- ings, fine business blocks, several churches, good graded schools, a volunteer fire de- partment, an opera house, 2 banks, and supports 2 weekly newspapers, the Times and Journal. The prominent manufac- tories here include several extensive lime kilns, foundry, 3 flour mills, creamery, bentwood and hub factory, 2 planing mills, cooper shop, brewery, furniture factory and stave works ..
