HARTFORD CITY. The county seat of Blackford county is located at cross- ing of C St L & P and Ft W C & L R Rs, 47 miles south of Ft Wayne and 72 north- east of Indianapolis. This place was set- tled in 1839, and now contains 2,000 inhab- itants, 4 churches-Methodist, Presbyte- rian, Lutheran and Catholic -graded school, an opera house, with a seating ca- pacity of 600, 2 hotels and 1 bank. 2 weekly newspapers are issued, the News and Telegram. Hartford City is free from debt and has the following manufactories: 2 saw mills, hub and spoke works, flax mill, brick and tile yard, flour mill and 1 plan- ing mill. The surrounding farming dis- trict has been greatly improved by drain- ing, and is now very productive. Grain, flax and live stock are the principal ship ments. Ex, Am and Adams. Tel, W U.
