It was incorporated a town in 1866, carries a bonded debt of $2,500, has real and per- sonal property, assessed value, aggregating $220,000, and is supplied with 4 churches, a graded school, 2 hotels and 1 bank. The Independent, a weekly newspaper, is sus- tained. . The chief manufacturing estab- lishments located here comprise a flour mill, chair factory, 5 saw mills, grain cradle factory and large wheel-barrow works.
