Is an im- portant manufacturing city of 3,000 in- habitants, located at crossing of G R & I and L S & MS R Rs, in Wayne township, Noble county, 10 miles north of Albion, court house, 26 north of Ft Wayne, and 143 east of Chicago. This is a well built handsome city, supplied with 8 churches, graded and high schools, a well equipped fire department, national bank and 3 hotels. The press is represented by 3 weekly and 3 monthly papers, News, Coming Times, and Standard, are issued weekly. The As- sembly, Liberal Economist and Bee Keepers' Guide, are monthly publications. The as- sessed value of real and personal property here amounts to $700,000. Kendallville is for its size the most important grain mar- ket in northern Indiana. The fertile agri- cultural district by which it is surrounded is particularly adopted to the growth of the cereals. The manufactories of this city are rapidly increasing in size and number, and it has become known as a great manu- facturing center. The most prominent es- tablishments include 2 planing mills, large wind mill works, 2 saw mills, handle factory, 2 flour mills, clothes rack factory, 2 cooper shops, tannery, refrigerator works, brewery, fishing lamp factory, brick yard, pump works, eave trough factory and tile works.
