This pleasant, thrifty city of 2,000 inhabitants, the county seat of Tip- ton county, is located at crossing of I P & C Div W St L & P and L E & W Rys, 39 miles north of Indianapolis and 40 east of Lafayette. Tipton is rapidly improving in appearance and business importance. The bonded debt amounts to $5,000 and the as- sessed value of real and personal property aggregates $300,000. It has 5 churches -- Methodist, Presbytertian, Christian, New Light and Catholic -- 2 banks, 4 hotels, an opera house and a fine graded school. 2 weekly newspapers, the Advocate and Times, are published. 4 saw mills, hub factory, 2 planing mills, stave mill, heading factory and 1 flour mill comprise its principal manufactories.
