MADISON. The oldest town in southern Indiana, is a flourishing city of 9,000 inhabitants, located on the Ohio river and J M & I R R, 86 miles southeast of In- dianapolis, and 100 below Cincinnati. Madison is a live commercial and manu- facturing city, supplied with gas and water works, a well equipped fire department, good police force, street railway, a number of handsome church edifices, 6 graded schools, 1 academy, a public library, 7 hotels, and 2 national banks. The press is represented by the Star, Herald and Courier, all of which are issued both daily and weekly.
