The shooting was sald by Douglas county officers to be an outgrowth of : trouble .had by the two men about ; three or four years ago. At that tima, - it was mid. Bartling was brought to the Spring- Haid Baptist hospital yesterday at 4:30 p. m. He is in a critical condition, physicians said this morning.


The sooldent occurred when the two men were attempting to split a large los by means of a charge of dynamite. In some manner the ex- ! plosive ' was , discharged suddenly ! while the men were bending over the --- log. Bartling received a fractured skull and was knocked unconscious. Mr. Von Stroh was attracted by the explosion and immediately went to the men. Two physicians from Lock- wood were summoned. .

The" funeral of Irby 'was held "yes- tortay Doar Ava. He is survived by the wife and five children .


The killing is said to have resulted from bad feeling which had existed between Irby and Clark for some time. Some time ago they got into a quarrel over land and Irby shot Clark in the arth with a pistol.


Clark walked up to the sawmill where Irby was working at noon Mon- day, and, pointing a finger at him. shouted, "You're the man who shot ms, and I'm going to kill you." .

Funeral services were held Thurs- day afternoon for "Uncle Buss" Willia. who died Tuesday, February 16. at his home two .mllea east of 8trafford.
