JUDD PROBING OSCAR WILLIS' DEATH JULY 3

Construction Employe Was Burned to Death Near Rockaway Beach.

--

SEVERAL

QUESTIONED

-

Charred Remains May Be Exhumed and Thorough Examination Made.

Investigation into; the ' death of Oscar Willle, 39-year-old construction camp worker, whose charred body was removed from the ruins of & construc- don company's camp house near Rockaway Beach on July 3, Is being conducted by Detective Jay N. Judd · d operators, of Springfield, assisted b

Prosecuting Attorney Aubrey Blunk. of Forsyth and Coroner Rob- art Thornhill. of Branson. 1\ wu learned today by The Leader.

The Investigation started . wok ago when Weldon Willls, brother of the man found burned, hired the de- tective agency here to Investigate con - nicting stories which are said to have been told by Taney county citizens.

----

Several Persons Questiond.

Over long distance telephone todas. : Coroner Thornhill stated that he and . the prosecutor and the Springfield de - tectives held a conference at the con- ! struction company camp last week and several persons were queried. Thornhill stated that he did not know whether charges would be filed soon or not.

The charred remains of Willis prob- ably will be exhumed and a thorough examination made, the corone: stated.

Prosecuting Attorney Blunk could not be reached by telephone today. as he had left his office at Forsyth on business.

Has Klartling Evidence.

-

Detective Judd this morning stated

that he had startling evidence which he and his operativ hed uncovered. "I have convincting evidence that Willis was killed before the house was burned." the detective declared. "The fire has been traced to a Taney coun- ty citizen, although I am not in & position to disclose the name.

"I have conferred with the Taney county prosecutor and the coroner and both believe we have sufficient evidence to clear the mystery." Identified by Watch andMing

The body of Willis was so complete- burned - that "identification made positive only through a watch and ring "and there 'was notway,"of determining whether he bad "been' wounded before the fire.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Blanstitt, who oc- cupied other rooms of the house, de- clared they were awakened by smoke and flames and fled barely in time t. escape death. They said they seinly shouted to Willis, but could not awaken him and were blocked by the flames from attempting to rescue hlm.

Scout Theory of Revenge.

The Blansitts scouted the theory that they or Willis might have been the objects of avengers. Three other men. employes ! the construction company. had been sharing the room with Willis but on the night of the tagedy they were dancing at a beach resort.

Origin of the fire has remained a mystery. There was no electric wi - Ing' in the building and it was ex- plained that there had been no fire In the bungalow for several days. Willla did not smoke.

Willis was the son of Mr .and Mrs. J. H. Willis, of 1133 East Division street, Springfield. His home was In Greenfield, where the . body'. wat buried.
