It dates its settlement from 1852, was incorporated as a village in 1868 and as a city in 1885. It is lighted by electricity, has water works, fire de- partment, churches of the Catholic, Luth- eran, Methodist and Reformed denomina- tions, excellent public schools, a county training school for teachers, long distance and local telephone service, first-class ho- tels, a bank and a weekly newspaper, the Buffalo County Journal.
