Population, 2,000. Dating its settlement from 1844, is an incorporated city, located on Rock river, a water power stream, and on the C., M. & St. P. Ry., in Williamston township, Dodge county, 11 miles northeast of Juneau, the county seat, and 22 south- west of Fond du Lac. Has Catholic, Luth- eran and Methodist churches, excellent schools, electric light, public halls, fire de- partment, a bank, a large elevator and malt house, a blast furnace, a flouring mill, machine shops, box factory, 2 brew- eries, furniture factory, foundry, saw mill, lime works, creameries and cheese fac- tories, carriage and wagon works, etc. Iron mining is carried on in the vicinity. Three weekly newspapers, the Dodge County Banner, Dodge County Pionier and the Mayville News are published.
