Population, 1,000. An incorporated city located on the boundary line between Clark and Marathon counties, but accord- ed to the former by the postal authorities. It is a station on the Wisconsin Central Ry., 40 miles northeast of Neillsville, the county seat of Clark county, and about the same distance west of Wausau, the county seat of Marathon county, and 300 from Chicago. Lumbering is the chief in- 8 dustry, but it is also a shipping point for hay, grain, cheese, butter and other farm products. The city has a stave and head- ing factory, machine shop, bar fixture and furniture factory, a bank-the Colby State Bank-a hall seating 500 and a weekly newspaper, the Phonograph. There are 2 Lutheran, 1 Catholic and 1 Methodist churches, excellent schools, free circulat- ing and public libraries. Tel., W. U. Exp., National. Local and long distance tele- phone facilities. H.
