nebago. where the Fox river empties into the lake. The Fox river being navigable from Green Bay to Oshkosh and points beyond gives the city direct shipments by water to and from the great lakes, and this, with the fact that it is located on the main line and Ashland division of the C. & N. W. Ry., the C., M. & St. P. Ry., and the Wisconsin Central Ry., makes it a center of production and distribution for the northern part of Wisconsin, the upper peninsula of Michigan and portions of Minnesota anl Iowa. The supply of pine and hardwood of the state is within easy access and the wood working industries of the place are therefore rapidly increasing. At present they include saw mills, planing mills, sash, door and blind factories, furni- ture factories, chair factories, coffin fac- tories, bank and office furniture factories, trunk. wagon and carriage factories, and also match factories. Oshkosh produces, for instance, more sash, doors and blinds than any city in the world, and the annual value of this product, togther with the lumber cut, the latter being now quite small, amounting to over $3,000,000. In ad- dition to the above list of industries, the city has boiler works, shingle machine

storage machinery. It is also becoming an important wholesale point, and now has wholesale grocery houses, paper and no- tions, boots, shoes and rubber goods, leather and findings, spices, sporting goods, and is a distributing point for one of the largest packing houses in Chicago. The press is represented by the North- western (daily and weekly). The Times (daily and weekly), the Wisconsin Tele- graph (weekly), The Oshkosh Observer (weekly) and Christian the Union (monthly). Several first-class hotels cater to the wants of the traveling public, Among them the Athearn Hotel is one of the best in the state, with all modern improve- ments, erected and furnished at a cost of over $130,000. There are also the Revere and Tremont, Yatchting is one of the great features on Lake Winnebago, and the an- nual regattas of yachts and ice boats are largely attended. This place is a favorite resort for sportsmen during the period

cated here, and the city is becoming not- ably prominent for the liberal and care- ful manner in which such matters are sup- ported and maintained. The Oshkosh Bus- iness College, one of the leading commer- cial colleges of Wisconsin, is located here. The city contains seven banks, with cap- ital of over $1,500,000, and with deposits of about $4,500,000. The different religious denominations are numerously represented, and the majority possess handsome and

imposing places of worship. Has three

hospitals that are equal to any in the state. The city is lighted by electricity and gas, has asphalt, brick and cedar block pavements on all the principal streets, has a splendid system of sewerage. the Holly system of water works, a well equipped and efficient fire department, telephone exchanges and all the facilities and requisites of a modern metropolitan city. Three electric interunban roads, con- nect Oshkosh and Neenah on the north, Oshkosh and Omro on the west and Osh- kosh and Fond du Lac on the south. The total mileage is 45 miles and the systems represent a cost of half a million dollars. In addition, a city system affords most excellent service. The city is well pro- vided with theaters, hall, etc., and has an opera house with a seating capacity of 1,200, a government building that cost $100,000, a city hall that cost $75,000, a high school costing $100,000, and a public library that represents in expenditures of $100,000. IMPROVED

Gas and Gasoline Engines

Portable, Stationary and Marine Engines from 1 to 12 Horse Power.

Our small portable rigs are designed and adapted to any kind of light work. They are made in sizes from one horse power upwards and can be placed on wheels or trucks when desired at an additional expense. They can be moved to the work instead of bringing the work to the engine. They are especially adapted to running cream separators, churning and any kind of dairy work, pumping, sawing wood, grinding feed, running corn shellers, dynamos, or any work where it is desired to move the engine.

The amount of gasoline used is only according to the work taken from the engine. The speed of the engine can be changed to suit the requirements by adjusting the governor spring.

THE CHEAPEST POWER OBTAINABLE.
