It is 14 miles west of Oconto, the county seat, on the C. & N. W. Ry. Has a paper mill, paper and sulphite pulp mills, good hotel, saw mill, headquarters of the Oconto Elevator Co., and Oconto Falls Ma- chine Shop, the former large dealers in grain, seeds and produce, latter manu- facturers and dealers in machinery and mill supplies, a high school building erect- ed at a cost of $16,000, 2 graded schools, 3 churches, Catholic, Methodist and Luth- eran, telephone exchange, a live weekly newspaper, the Oconto Falls Herald and a state bank with capital of $25,000. Population. 1,500. An incorporated village, located on both sides of the Fox river, a navigable stream, and on the C., M. & St. P. Ry., in Winnebago county, 12 miles west of Oshkosh, the judicial seat, and 100 from Milwaukee. Is connected with Oshkosh by electric railway. The township was origi- nally called Butte des Morts the township and village were then known as Blooming- dale, and lastly, when the village became incorporated, the names of both were changed to Omro. It was first settled in 1845, and has Baptist, Catholic, Episcopal Methodist Episcopal and Presbyterian churches, excellent schools, two banks, etc.
