BEAVER DAM.
Population, 6,000. An incorporated city located on the Northern div., C., M. & St. P. Ry., in Dodge county, 9 miles northwest of Juneau, the judicial seat, and 63 north- west of Milwaukee. It is a favorite resort for tourists during the summer months, and is located in the midst of a wealthy agricultural district. The different re- ligious denominations are represented and the majority possess handsome and impos- ing places of worship. The educational fa- cilities are of a superior order; in addition to an excellent public school system, it is the seat of the Wayland Academy. The city is lighted by electricity and gas, has an excellent system of water works and sewers, a well equipped fire department, telephone exchange, 2 newspapers-Argus and Dodge County Citizen-cotton mill, breweries, flouring mills, flour and eleva- tor machinery manufactory, grain eleva- tors, foundries and machine shops, mallea- ble iron works, stove works, 2 banks, good hotels, creameries and an extensive nurs- ery, numerous large and well-stocked spe- cial and general stores, handsome resi- dences, etc. The shipments comprise grain, live stock and the products of the various factories.
