LAKE GENEVA.


Population, 3,000. An incorporated city, picturesquely situated on the lake from which it takes its name, and on the C. & N. W. Ry., and is a flourishing village in Walworth county, 10 miles southeast of Elkhorn, the county seat. 53 southwest of Milwaukee, and 70 northwest of Chicago. It is one of the loveliest summer resorts in the country, and the shores are dotted with villas erected by wealthy Chicago parties and others, and several large steamers and a fleet of row boats are in constant readiness to convey picnic parties to different points on the shore. The lake affords excellent water power. Has water works, electric light and fire department. Several good hotels cater to the wants of the traveling public, and the city contains 7 churches, representing as many denominations, good public schools, an opera house, 2 banks and 2 weekly newspapers, the Herald (Rep,) and the News (Rep.). It was formerly known as Geneva'. Stages to Springfield, 31/2 miles distant to meet all trains on the C., M. & St. P. Ry .; fare, 50 cents. Exp., Am. Tel., W. U. Telephone exchange. C. S.
