EDGERTON.


(Population, 2,250. Is located on the C., M. & St. P. Ry., in Rock county, 12 miles north of Janesville, the judicial seat, 8 northwest of Milton Junction, 25 southeast of Madi- son, and 71 southwest of Milwaukee. It was first settled in 1836, laid out as a village in 1854, and incorporated as a city in 1883. It has Baptist, Catholic, Congregational, German and Norwegian Lutheran and Methodist churches, good public schools, water works, a fire department, 2 banks, good hotels, 1 hall and 2 weekly newspap- ers, the Wisconsin Tobacco Reporter and the Eagle. The shipment of tobacco is the principal industry, nearly half of what is raised in the state being shipped from this point. Live stock, grain and brick are also exported. Exp., U. S. Tel., W. U.
