Neither shall hee or his agent or Assignes till above one halfe of the above said land at once or in one yeare. ffor and in consid- eration of which grant, lease, priveledge, the said Benj Tompson bindeth himselfe together with his assignes to pay or cause to be payd to the Towne of Brantrey the full and just sume of fivetenne pounds annually to be reckoned as part of his salary while he shall continue in the Townes service. It was voted at a publike Towne meeting that Capt John Hull of Boston, he & his heires Administrators shall be granted & have the like interest in the deed that the Towne of Braintrey had of Josiah Sachem vnder his hand & seal for the securing all his or their lands in Brantrey formerly purchased to him & his heires for ever that all & every the inhabitants have of Brantrey for themselves and their heirs.

At a Publike Towne meeting it was voted one the affirmative that ensigne Robt Tweles Jnº ffrench Jr. Caleb Hubart Joseph Crosby & Christopher Web were chosen a committee to treat with and advise with Mr. John Hubart of Boston Leiut Sam11 White of Waymoth about their building a dam or dames on monotocutt River that the fish be not hindered from going up the River that offences & contention may be avoided for the future.

A Lease of Swamp Set to Timothy Winter.
This Indenture made the first of April One thousand Six hun- dred eighty & five Betwene Capt Edmund Quinsey Sam11 Tomp- son Alexander Marsh John Ruggel & Christopher Web Selectmen for the Towne of Braintrey in behalfe of the said Towne being by them lawfully impowered one the one party : & Timothy Winter one the other party Wittnesseth That the sd Edmund Quinsey and Sam" Tompson & the rest of the above said Selectmen have & by these presents doe sett & to farme lett vnto the said Timothy Winter a peice or parcel of Swamp land being in estimation about 12 acers or wt the same shall prove to be weh swamp lyeth one the west side of the mill neere tothe way that leadeth from monoto- cutt Brooke to the Common. And is bounded with the land of John Savil formerly part of the land flowed with the mill pond on the northerstly part : & elso where with the common lands belong- ing to Brantrey : together with such small corner of vpland as shall be convenient for the straighing & shorting of the fencing in. the p'mises :
To have & to hold the above Bargained p'mises to the said Timothy Winter his heires executors, administrators & assignes for the full terme of & time of twenty Yeares from the day of the date of these presents : And the said Timothy Winter doth herby covenant & promise to & with the sd Selectmen abovsaid & for himselfe his heires & assignes that he & they successivly shall cleene & subdue the sd Swamp land within twelve yeares next in- suing in such sort as shall make it conveniently movable & to pay for the last eight yeares of this lease to the Selectmen of or Towne of Braintrey three pounds per annum in corne at current prise as it passeth from man to man. And also that he will not sell any ofthe wood taken off ofthe premises so as the same shall be carryed out off the Towne And if the said Timothy Winter his heires executors, Administrators or assignes shall fayle to performe what is here by them covenanted & Agreed to in part or in whole it shall be lawfull for the Selectmen ofthe said Towne successively or such other person or persons as the said [31] Town shall apoint the premises to reenter & the same to have againe as formerly & the sd Tenant his heires executors adminis- trators thence to expell any thing in this Lease to the contray not withstanding.
In witness wherof the parties to these presents have interchang- abley set their hands the day & yeare first above written. Signed & delivered in the Prsence of

Know all men by these presents that I Timothy Winter now dwelling in the Towne of Brantrey doe acknowledge to have re- ceived of the counstables of the said Towne (in the County of Suf- folke) by severall rates made by the Selectmen to defray the sd. Towne debt & according to their order to pay vnto the said Tim- othy Winter with the Towne cow wch he received of widow Scant by the Selectmen's order in full for his keeping dieting lodging & cloaths for Jacob Pool deceased for the whole time of his abode vnto his death & buriall I say received in full & doe really and fully acquitt the Towne & Selectmen of Brantrey. as witness my hand this 25 ffeb 86/7 Witnes

Deacon Sam11 Tompson & John Rugel Selectmen. Then in being came to the house of Edmund Quinsey & made complaint that severall persons was cutting downe the young growth of wood in or old common, and if their was noe speedy care taken many more would fall one and desired & severall other persons of the Inhabi- tants pleaded that the Inhabitant might be speedily requested to give the Selectmen a meeting to consider together what should be furder done to preserve the young wood upon or Common as some yeares past it has bine preserved by a vote of the Towne constrain- ing. And vpon the 20th November 87 Joseph Parmiter came to the house of Edmund Quinsey then a Selectman & desired a few lines for direction to him to give notis to the Inhabitants that they were by the Selectmen requested to meet at Steven Paynes S' house upon the 23ª day at nine of the clock in the morning Then & their to conferre & consult what might be done for the good of the whole in preserving the young growth of wood in the common wch was threatened by some to cutt it downe whervpon notis be- ing given by Joseph Parmiter many of the Inhabitants came together & did conferre [about] it and manyfested their dislike of cutting it down & some pressed for a division, vpon [33] wch a committee was chosen by a vote of Henry Neal John ffrench St. Joseph Peniman Christo Web St. Joseph Crosby should make a list of all wch they judged to have any true right to this old Com- mon as the 1500 acres of Common.
And a Meeting was apointed vpon 28th of November following that they might give in their list wch done two of the Committee rose vp & declared they was not agreed among themselves ; vpon wch many desired a vote might pass for the continuance of the wood & Common to be as formerly for the yeares next insuing or the Towne looke furder order : some did object agst such a vote & desired a division might be made But a vote passed by the ma- jor part of the inhabitants then present one the affirmative that the young wood should be preserved for this next yeares insuing in the old common & bounds set as the South Common above Mar- tin Saunders so to monoticut all the young wood but pine should stand & the Common by the old mill & so to Babel brooke or swampe that runneth into Babel Brook from the head of that swamp vpon a straight line to the westward most Corner of Dea- con Bass Plaine called the Captaine Plaine. And the vote that then passed one the affirmative vpon the 28th of November 87 was that all the young wood vpon these lands par fixed should be pre- served & whosoever should attempt to cutt downe & carry away this young wood should pay three shillings four pence a tree for as many they should fell one halfe to the poore of the Towne & the other moiety a quarter to the enformer & a quarter to the commit- tee chosen to take care about yr. sayd Common who was John

The Inhabitants of Braintrey in the County Suffolke in the Mattathusetts Colony in New England being convened together to give their sentiments & minds about a present settlement of a Government in the sª Colony vntill we shall receive order from the Crowne of England &c. It was then voted in the affirmative that or minds and requests are that the former Governeur & Deputy uth the Assistants, & Deputies of the Towne chosen and Sworne in 86 bee re-instated & have full power with the Repre- sentatives of the severall Townes present ; to make choise out of the Honrd Counsel, or other gentlemen in or Colony to be Assist- ants untill further order be given we also declare that in case or Govener & Assistants doe not accept to be re-instated, That we give full power to Honord Counsel at Boston sitting, & or repre- sentatives, which we have sent to act for [34] us in all matters that shall come under present. consideration In behalfe of the peace safty & welfaire of or Colony Also voted that the Honrd Waitt still Winthrop bee major Generall of the Millitia of the Colony of the Mattathusetts Christopher Web Sr. & Joseph Crosby were chosen by the Inhabitants as their representitives for the Towne of Brantrey to meet the representitives of the rest of the Townes at Boston one 22th of this Instant may with full power to act as above expressed for the Towne &c.
It was voted by the Inhabitants that Capt Edmund Quinsey should Signe or returne of the names of the representitives & the order theirin given them In the name of the Inhabitants.
4th June 89.
It being signified by Isaac Addington clerke that the councill of safty & preservation of the Peace of the people desired the Rep- resentitives of the Townes & villages of the mattathusetts Colony should convene together at Boston to consult wh the Counsel sitting in Boston 5th of this Instant June about the emergencies that came vnder consideration ; ther was chosen Christopher Web Sr. by the voyce of the Assembly meet for their representitive.
It was also voted one the Affirmative that Samuel Speere should build a litle house 7 foote long & 5 foot wide & set it by his house to secure his Sister good wife Witty being distracted & provide for her & the Towne by vote ingaged to see him wel payed & sattisfied uth shall be thought reasonable.

Also Deacon Samuel Tompson chosen clerke of the writts in case accepted of the County Court.
Also voted one affirmative That Jno Inyon shall be provided for by a Towne Rate.

Publik warning being given by o' counstables to the whole Inhabitants of Brantrey to meet together at eight of the clock in the morning at the meeting house vpon the 3ª day of November 1690 being come together by one or two of the clocke the occasion of the convening was related by the Selectmen to vnderstand the minds of the Inhabitants what they would allow Mr. Moses ffiske for his salary this yeare(90) and after some debate it was voted one the affirmative they would allow eighty pounds forty in money or as money & forty in country pay at the present country prise And eah man or Inhabitant paying his pportion set downe by rate by or Selectmen ; it being payd as above said to Mr. ffiske or by his order ; he shall have his discharge and shall not be liable to pay any part of the said sum unpayd by others neglect And all arreares to be speedyly gathered in by the counstables by warrant given by of Selectmen.
