4th.ly To hear the Report of any Committee or choose any com- mittee as the Town shall think Proper.

Moderator. Decon Samuel Holbrook was chosen Moderator.
Voted, That the Selectmen diligently enquire into the circum- stances of the Town Stock of Powders, Balls flints &c and to sup- ply the deficiency ; So that the Stock be compleatly full as the Law requires.
The second article in the warrant was then taken under consid- eration and after some small debate the Town Voted, to dismiss the article.
The the Third article was taken up and dismised in the same manner.
It was then moved and seconded to disolve the meeting the motion being put it was determined by a large majority of vote to disolve the meeting,
and it was declard. by the Moderator that the meeting was dis- solved.

The anniversary town meeting for the choice of town Officers for the year one thousand seven hundred & eighty seven.
The freeholders and other inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, Qualified by Law to vote in town affairs being legally assembled at the Meeting house in the Middle Precenct of said Town for the choice of town Officers and for transacting other affairs of said town the particulars whereof as they were inserted in the Warrants are as follows (viz) after a Moderator chosen.
First to choose a town Clerk and all such other town offi- cers for this present year that the Law Requirs also to give in their Votes for a County Treasurer.
2ªly To see what meathod the town will take to repair the high- ways, this present year
3ªly To see what the Town will do Relative to Renting or im- proving the Towns Lands as the Former leases run out.
4th.ly To see if the Town will Raise money to defrey the expenses of the town and to Determine what sum may be necessary.
5thly To hear the Request of Benjamin Baxter and to act thereon as the Town shall think Proper.
6thly, To Choose an Overseer of the Poor and to Determine what way they shall be supplyed or Provided for.
7thly To see what meathod the town will take to discharge such of the towns Debts as are pressingly called for.
8th.ly, to hear the Report of any Committee or choose any Com- mittee that the town shall think proper when assembled.

Voted the Selectmen settle with Benja Baxter. Voted that the Selectmen settle with Benjamin Baxter and Report to the Town at the adjournment.

Voted, to Give Capt Jonathan thayer three Pounds twelve shil- lings for his back services as overseer of the Poor.
Overseer of the Poor excused. Voted to excuse Capt. Jona- than thayer from Surving as overseer of the Poor the Present year.
Voted to Choose Capt. Silas Wild to oversee the Town Poor the Present year.
Voted, That the Selectmen Provid for the town Poor the Present Year.
Voted, to Reconsider the Last vote, then voted that the overseer Provid for the towns Poor under the direction of the Selectmen.

allowance for Lydia Hayden. Voted, The Selectmen allow the Pason that has keept Lydia Hayden, the same sum Pr. week for keeping her as she has cost the town Pr week for six months past.
Meeting adjourned. Voted, to adjourn this meeting to our an- niversary town meeting in May next, to meet at this Place at one of the Clock afternoon.

Surveyor of highways excusd. Voted to excuse Mr. Jackson Field from serving as Surveyor of Highways the Present year. Surveyor of highways Chosen. Voted, to Choose Mr. William Field to Sarve as Surveyor of Highways the insewing year.

The anniversary town meeting for the choice of Representative the Inhabitants of the town assembled By legal Warrant agreeable the Constitution to elect one or more suitable Person or Persons, to Represent this town in the Great and General Court of the Com- monwealth this Present year.
Col11. Ebenezer Thayer Jur. Representative. Assembled as aforesaid and gave in their votes which being sorted & Counted it was declared that Colo. Ebenezer thayer Jur. was chosen by the majority of twelve votes.
Then the meeting was dissolved.
1787 June 4.
Assembled by adjournment from May 17th. 1787, to this time. Obstructions of the Fish. Voted, to Choose a Committee to Remove the obstruction of the Fish in the falls back of Mr Abra- ham Thayers mill.

allowance to Decon Holbrook. Voted, to allow Decon. Samuel Holbrook six Pounds that he paid for the land the towns Poor house stands on.
Decon Holbrook to settle with Mr. Joseph Beele. Voted, That Decon. Samuel Holbrook be desired to settle with Mr. Joseph Beeles the attachment he has on the Town Poor house lot in the best way he can for the towns interest
[57] Committee Voted, to choose a Committee to take cair of and surport Petition of a number of the Inhabitants of this town to the General Court objecting to the choice of our Representative, being legal
Committee Voted, Mr. Azariah Faxon Esq. Capt. Eliplialet Sawen & John Vinton be the Committee for the aforesaid purpose.
The Selectmen to settle & Reconvey to Benjamin Baxter that house & Land in Roxbury - Voted, to reconvey to Benjamin Bax- ter that house & Land in Roxbury that belongs to this town his discharging the town from a Debt the town Borrowed of Harrison Gray Esqr. and his giving the town good security for a further sum of twenty Pounds.
Voted, the Selectmen be a Committee to settle the above affair with Benjamin Baxter & Reconvey said house & Land to said Bax- ter his fulfiling as above
Not to pay compound interest. Voted, that the Treasurer be Directed not to pay aney more Compound Interest that shall becom due after this date.
Collectors to have one month longer. Voted, those Collectors that the town directed there Treasurer, to Issue his warrants against in two months from the second day of April Last, have one month more to complet their Collections & no longer
meeting dissolved. the Bisness of the warrant being finished the meeting was Dissolved by the Moderator.

First The Inhabitants of the Town of Braintree assembled at the meeting house in the middle precinct in said town by a Legal warrant the Particulars whereof are as follows firs after a Moder- ator chosen to see what the town will do with a number of Persons who advanced money to heir men for the Public Service in the year 1776 and now request the same to be refunded to them again.
2ªly To see if the Town will give their Representative any other Instructions than those all Ready Voted. 3ªly, To see what way or meathod the Town will take to settle with Mr. Ebenezer Clark Re-

specting his land bid of by the Selectmen of said Town the year Past and act thereon as they shall think proper. 4th.ly, to see if the town will seil a Part or all the Rooms in the Town House they built for the Poor of said Town. 5thly To see if the Town will raise any sum or sums of money to pay the Towns Debts and to Defrey Charges. 6thly To what meathod the town will take to Secure the debt due from Benjamin Baxter of Roxbury to this Town.
7th. To see if the Town will raise any sum or sums of money to pay any Particular Debt or Debts due from the Town.

Dea. Holbrook to settle Mr Clark's execution for State tax No. 1. Voted, to empower Decon. Samuel Holbrook to settle Ebenezer Clark's Execution against him in the hands of Deacn Moses French for State Tax No. 1.
Deacn. Holbrook to settle with Do Respecting his land. Voted, to empower Decon Samuel Holbrook to settle with Ebenezer Clark Respecting his Land the Selectmen Bid of the year Past, and to Release said Land to said Clark when he has Paid for the same.
[59] Ebenz". Clark Jur. to have 3 weeks to compleat. Voted, to give Mr. Ebenezer Clark Jur. three weeks to compleat His In- dentor to the Town Respecting the work house he was to build
Voted, to seil the whole of the Rooms in the work house.
Committee for Seiling the work house Voted, to choose a Com- mitteee for the above purpose then Mr Gaius thayer Decon Samuel Holbrook & Majr Seth Turner was Chosen a Committee for the seiling the work house.
Voted, said Committee Let out said seiling to the Loest bider & not to Receive said seiling till it is compleat according the Com- mittee articals agreed on.
Voted to pass over Raising money. Voted to pass over the fifth artical in the warrant Respecting Raising money.
The Committee to settle with Benjamin Baxter & the old Select- men Respecting Baxters House & Land Voted, to choose a Com- mittee to settle the affair with Benja Baxter & the old Selectmen that took a Deed of the house & Land formerly belong'd to said Baxter & to settle the matter & then Report to the Town.
Voted, to choose three Persons for said Committee
then Colo. Ebenezer thayer Jur. Dea". Moses French & Capt. John Hall were chosen a Committee for the aforesaid Purpose.
Balance from Baxter to this town appropreated to be paid to Decon French. Voted, to appropreate the Ballance that may be due from Benjamin Baxter to this town after a note is Paid that

said old Selectmen gave Harrison Gray Esq'. for about ninty three Pounds & interest, to Pay Part of a note of eighty four pounds this town owes to Deaon. Moses French.
Voted to dissolve the meeting & it was accordingly dissolved by the Moderator
the report of the Committee for Settling with Benjamin Bax- ter &c excepted Dec'. 3, 1787. At a meeting of the inhabitants of the town by legal warrant Recorded in the next page the Report of the Committee for Settling with Benjamin Baxter & the former Selectmen was ofered to the town & excepted & is Recorded in the Treasurers Book Page 379

the Inhabitants of the town of Braintree assembled at the meet- ing house in the Middle Precenct in said town By legal warrant the Particulars whereof are as follows.
After a Moderator Chosen.
First to chuse a Delegate or delegates to Represent them in a Convention which is to meet at the State house in Boston on the second wednesday of January next according to Resolve of the Legislature of this Commonwealth the twenty fifth of October last.
2ªly, to see if the Town will give to their Delegate or Delegates instructions.
3dly, to see what the town will Do Respecting & Execution the State Treasurer has granted against Ephraim Blanchard for back taxes.
4thly, to hear the Report of any Committee or Chuse any Com- mittee the town shall think Proper when assembled as aforesaid.
Voted, that the Selectmen should act as Moderators.
Voted, that the form of Government be Read at the opening of the meeting.
Voted, to Purseed to the Choriss of a Delegate or Delegates
Delegates for the Convention. Voted, to Chuse two Persons to Represent them at the said Convention then the Votes was given in sorted & counted and it appeared that Richard Cranch Esq. was chosen for one of the Delegates, then the votes was given in sorted & counted & the Revd. Mr. Anthoney wiberd was Chosen for the other Delegate.
Voted, to Pass over the second article in the warrant.
The Selectmen to pay the executions vs Ephraim Blancher Jr. Voted, that the town would Pay the Execution against Ephraim Blancher Jur. & that the Selectmen take security of Real Estate of his bondsmen for the sum it cost the town unless he makes Pay- ment for said sum by Discharging the town of sum of their Debts.
Voted to Dissolve the meeting & it was accordingly Dissolved.

The Anniversary Town meeting for the Choice of Town officers &c.
The Freeholders and other Inhabitants of the Town of Braintree Qualifyd to vote in Town affairs being assembled at the Meeting house in the Middle precienct in said Town pursuant to Legall Warrants to Transact the affairs of said Town, particulars whereof as Inserted in said warrants are as follows, Viz)
Warrants. First, after a moderator Choosen to choose a Town Clerk and all such town officers for the present Year as the Law Re- quires also to Receive the Votes for a County Treasurer :
Secondly, to Raise such sum or sums of money for the use of , the Town as shall be needed to pay debts & to Defrey Charges &c.
Thirdly, to see what method the Town will take to Repair the Highways this present Year.
Fourthly, to see if the Town will fence their land that the house built for the Poor stands on.
Fifthly, To see if the Town will appropriate any Particular sum or sums of money for the use of Schooling this present year or to pay any particular Debts the town owes.
Sixthly, to hear the Report of any Committee or choose any Committee the Town shall think proper when assembld

Town Clerk. Moderator. Voted, to choose the Town Clerk by Ballot votes being brought in sorted and Counted Ebenezer Thayer jun" was choose by a Majority 58 votes and was Sworn into said Office he was excused from being Moderator. Dec". Moses French was choose moderator.
Treasurer. Ebenezer Thayer jun' was choose Town Treasurer.
Voted, that there be three Selectmen choosen in the Town for this present year one in each Precienct. Then the follows persons was Choosen
[62] Selectmen Peter Boylston Adams Esq". Ebenezer Thayer jun' & Mr Joseph White Jun', were choosen Selectmen.
Assessors. Voted, the three Selectmen be three of the Assessors for the ensuing year and also voted to choose six more assessors (viz) two in each Precienct, then Capt Jonathan Webb & Capt John Hall was choosen for the North Precienct, Capt. Hall refused to serve. Mes®. Hobart Clark & Nehemiah Holbrook was choosen for the Middle Precinct assessors. The meeting then adjourned to monday the seventeenth instant 10 o'clock forenoon.
March 17th.
Wardens Act Read. The Freeholders and other Inhabitants of the Town of Braintree being assembled by adjournment from the third Instant, The Clerk Read the Warden Act.
Wardens. Voted, that it shall be considered as a disorder & treated as such for any person who shall git on the Seats with their Feet in any part of the meeting House. Then proceeded to

the choice of Wardens. the following Persons was chosen, Mes". William Adams & Jonathan Marsh, Mr Solomon Thayer secd. & Capt Jonathan Thayer Capt Elisha Wales, & Samuel Linsfield.
Assessors. Lieut. Seth Spear was choose an assessor for the North Precienct, and Samuel Bass Esqr. & Lieut Nathaniel Niles was choose assessors South.
Constables. Voted, the Constables that shall be choosen for the ensuing year shall not have any pay for warning Town Meetings, warning persons out of Town or any other business that they may do for the Town, and that a Notification posted up, in some public place in such precienct in the Town shall be considered a Warning for Town Meeting. Then Mes8. Gaius Thayer, William Hobart & Barnabas Clark was chosen and sworn and accepted upon the above Conditions.
[63] Doct. Holbrooks accot. Cap Hall presented two Accot of Doct. Amos Holbrook for sund visits &c for Jona Fesenden & for Jona. Field which the Town voted not to allow.

Culler of Stavis Mes8. Gaius Thayer, Joshua Samson & Nathaniel Niles.
