FLOWER CREEK.


A postoffice and the location of a saw- ' mill and store in the township of Clay- banks, southwest corner of Oceana county, 22 miles from Hart, the county seat. Montague, 8 miles southeast on the C. & W. M. R. R., is the usual railroad point. Shipments, Hour and lumber. A tri- weekly stage runs from Montague via Flower Creek to Benona, carrying mail. FLOWERFIELD.


A place of 200 inhabitants, on the Kala- mazoo Div. of the L. S. & M. S. Rv, in Flowerfield township, near the northern line of St. Joseph county. It is 16 miles northwest of Centreville, the county seat, 17 south of Kalamazoo, and about 150 from Detroit. The nearest bank is at Schoolcraft, 4 miles north. The surround- ing country comprises prairie land, inter- spersed with heavy timber, and the pro- ducts embrace all the ordinary crops of the State, with abundance of fruit. The manufactures are confined to flour, feed. grain cradles and cider. Water power for a flour mill is derived from Flower creek. FLUSHING.


Is pleasantly located on Flint river, in the township of Flushing. northwestern part of Genesee county. 10 miles north- west of Flint, the county seat, to which place it has a daily stage line, fare 50 cents. The village was first settled in 1833, and has a population, according to the recent census, of 704. It is surrounded by a fue farming section, of which grain, hay, po ttoes and fruit are the leading products. There are several stone quarries in the vicinity, and coal is found a short distance below the village. The river affords a fine water power which is utilized by manu
