Ry, 12 miles west of Reed City, the crossing point of the G. R. & I. R. R., and 38 cast of Ludington. The place contains 3 shingle mills, a saw-mill, flour mill, hotel and a district school. Originally Dalton's Corners, is a village of 225 inhabitants on the D. && B. C. R. R., 6 miles out from the Central depot, De- troit and 2 miles from the city limits. It is in Hamtramck township. Wayne county, was settled as a village in 1872, and has a steam saw and planing mill, a stave fac- tory, Lutheran and Methodist churches, a public and a German school. A weekly newspaper, the Suburban. is published. It is also the location of a German Evangeli- cal orphan asylum. NORTHPORT.
The judicial seat of Leelenaw county. a village of 300 inhabitants, is situated on the west shore of Grand Traverse bay. near the northern extremity of the penin- sula that constitutes this county. It is 30 miles due north of Traverse City, about the same distance southwest of Charlevoix, and 150 due north of Grand Rapids. The timber hereabouts is chiefly hardwood, and the land well adapted to farming and fruit growing. The place was settled in 1854, and now has Congregational. Methodist and Lutheran churches, a Union school. a flouring and 2 saw-mills, a tannery, a weekly newspaper, the Ledlenan Enterprise. and other interests. A discontinued postoffice and landing on Grand river, in Allendale township, Ot- tawa county, 12 miles southeast of Grand Haven.
NORTH STAR.
A postoffice on Bad river, in North Star township, Gratiot county, 5} miles south- east of Ithaca, the county seat, and 13} southeast of St. Louis, its nearest railroad point. It has mail stage communication with Ithaca and Edgewood tri-weekly; fare to either point, 25 cents. Charles E. McBride, postmaster.

A beautifully located village of 1.000 in- habitants, on the F. & P. M. Ry, in the township of Plymouth, Wayne county, 4 miles north of Plymouth, 11 north of Wayne, 29 south of Holly, and 25 north- west of Detroit. It was first settled in 1826, and incorporated in 1867. A rich, well watered farming country, which is tributary to the village, makes it a promi- nent shipping point for farm and dairy products. Flour, lumber. cooperage. wheelbarrows, pully blocks, bent stock and school desks, the latter to the extent of 10,000 annually are manufactured. newspaper, the Record, is published. The village is entirely free from debt, bas Methodist. Baptist
and Presbyterian churches, a graded school building costing $12,000, and a beautiful opera house, seat- ing 1,000 persons. The tish hatchery of F. N. Clark is located here. Express,
