An incorporated village of about 450 in- habitants, on the M. C. R. R., in the township of Galien, Berrien county. It is 15 miles southwest of Berrien Springs, an equal distance west of Niles, and 205 from Detroit. Galien was settled in 1853. Lum- ber, shingles, staves, flour, wooden ware and handles are manufactured, and with grain, live stock and fruit form considera- ble shipments. The nearest bank is at Bu- chanan. Also known as Pier Cove, is located on the lake shore, 20 miles west of Allegan, and 5 west of Fenuville station, on the C. & W. M. R. R. It is in the township of Ganges, Allegan county, and has 60 in- habitants. A grist mill, United Brethren and Methodist churches and a public school are here. Fruit growing is a prom- inent interest in the neighborhood, and ap- - ples, peaches and small fruits are exported. The country hercabouts is high and rolling, being oak openings and prairie lands adapted to grain and stock farming. A postoffice in a farming section on the shore of lake Michigan, settled in 1850, in Blaine township, southwest corner of Benzie county, 12 miles from Benzonia, the county seat, and 42 southwest of Tra- verse City. It is on the semi-weekly mail stage route from Pierport to Frankfort, fare to either point being 75 cents. Wood, bark and hardwood timber are shipped. A village of 100 inhabitants, settled in 1854, in a township of the same name, in Leelanaw county, 30 miles southwest of Northport, the county seat, and an equal distance northwest of Traverse City, its shipping point, with which it has stage communication semi-weekly; fare, $2,00. It is on Crystal river, the outlet of Glen lake, and has a flouring mill and 2 saw- mills, with a large flouring mill, to cost about $10,000, in process of erection. Cranberry culture is a leading industry in the neighborhood, and large shipments of the fruit, with lumber and cord-wood, are made annually. Unimproved land here is worth from $5 to $10 per acre. A settlement which formerly had a tran- sient population of 150, located in Bay county, on the line of Gladwin, 113 miles west of Pinconning, and 30 above Bay City. Lumber is the only shipment. Set- tled in 1873. Postoffice discontinued.
GLENDALE.
One hundred and seventy-three miles west of Detroit via Bloomingdale station. on the South Haven Div. M. C. R. R., is a village of 175 inhabitants, settled in 1865. in Waverly township, Van Buren county, 9 miles northwest of Paw Paw court house. A steam saw-mill is the only man-
ufacturing interest. Lumber, wheat, live stock and apples are shipped, Bank, First National, Paw Paw, to which point a stage runs twice a week; fare, 50 cents. O. C. Rodenbaugh, postmaster.

A village of 50 inhabitants on the shore of lake Michigan, in the township of Glen Arbor, Leelenaw county, 30 miles south- west of Northport, the county seat, and an equal distance northwest of Traverse City. its railroad outlet, with which it has stage communication twice a week; fare, $2.00. Distance from Detroit, 292 miles via the F. & P. M. and G. R. & I. R. R. A flour mill and a steam saw-mill are operated, and lumber, wood, and some farm pro- ducts are shipped. Land from $1 to $15 per acre. Physician, clergyman and arti- sans are needed here. Mail, twice weekly. P. P. Smith, postmaster.

GLEN LORD.
A postoffice and station on the C. & W. M. R. R. in Lincoln township. Berrien county, 13 miles northwest of Berrien Springs, the county seat, and 23 north of New Buffalo. A saw-mill is located here. The station is an important shipping point for berries and fruit: 30,000 crates of small fruits and 2.000 barrels of apples with 10 tons of other freight were shipped in 1879. Settled 1830, and with a population of about 125, is a village in Wayne township, Cass county, 12 miles north of Cassopolis and 170 from Detroit. It is a station on the M. C. R.
