Locally known as Grand Trunk Junc- tion, a suburb of Detroit, at a point just west of the city. whence ? different rail- road lines radiate, 6 of the ? running into Detroit from thence over the M. C. R. R. track. The various roads are the Canada Southern Ry, the L. S. & M. S. Ry. the M. C. R. R., the D., L. & N. R. R., D. & B. C. R. R .. D., B. & St. L. R. R .. and the Grand Trunk Ry of Canada. The names of all parties, business and profes- sional, are incorporated in the list for De- troit, of which the Junction is virtually a part.

DEXTER.


An enterprising village of 1300 inhab- itants named in honor of S. C. W. Dexter, of Boston, Mass., who located a settlement here about 1823. It is situated on the fluron river at the mouth of Mill creek, in Scio township, northern central part of Washtenaw county, and is a station on the M. C. R. R., 9 miles west of Ann Arbor, the county seat, and 48 west of Detroit. It is in the midst of one of the best farm- ing sections in the State, is well laid out and presents a neat, attractive appearance. Among its prominent features are its churches, of which there are 4, Baptist, Methodist, Episcopal and Roman Catholic, the latter being a handsome stone structure built at a cost of about $40,000. Excellent educational facilities are afforded by a large graded public school, and the place has a public hall with a seating capacity of 500. The Derter Leader, an independent weekly newspaper, is published. The vil- lage is free from debt and has an assessed valuation, real and personal, of $398,444. Farms in the vicinity command from $50 to $75 per acre and farm products form a large portion of the shipments. Stage to Howell via Pinckney, daily, fare $1 and $2 respectively. Express, American. DIAMOND SPRINGS.


A village of 300 inhabitants, settled in 1850 and located on the line of Salem and Monterey townships, Allegan county. It is on Rabbit river, 14 miles north of Alle- gan court house, 6 east of Hamilton, a sta- tion on the Grand Haven R. R., its ship- ping point. It has Methodist and United Brethren churches, and a district school. Good water power is supplied by Diamond Springs creek, utilized by lumber, shingle and flouring mills. A shoemaker is one of the needs of the village. Banking busi- ness is transacted at Allegan. Price of land in vicinity, $5 to $20 per acre. A station on the D., L. & N. R. R., in the northeast corner of Kent county, 12 miles southeast of Howard City, ani about 30 from Grand Rapids. It has a daily mail.


DIMONDALE.


Population, 308. Settled about 1855. on Grand river, in Windsor township, Eaton county, and a station on the Lansing Div. of the L. S. & M. S. Ry, 93 miles from Detroit, S southwest of Lansing, location of nearest bank, and 12 northeast from Charlotte, the,county seat. The river af- fords good available power, and grist and saw-mills are operated. Wood, lumber. grain and live stock are shipped. Land in the vicinity varies in value from $20 to $50 per acre, according to improvements.
