This Institution Stands at the Head of the Schools of Commerce of the United States.
It is a well-known fact that Mr. H. B. BRYANT has had more experience in establishing and con" ducting Business Colleges than any other man in the country, having founded and put in successful operation, forty-eight Colleges in the principal cities of the United States and Canada. More than 40,000 Students attended these Colleges while under his management.
Mr. BRYANT is now giving his whole attention to the great institution located at Chicago.
Young men, middle-aged men and young women go to Chicago from all parts of the American Con- tinent, knowing that the grandest of all the Practical Schools is located there, and their wants will be fully met in that great and growing city.
THIS COLLEGE IS ONE OF THE MOST PROMINENT AND PERMANENT INSTITUTIONS IN CHICAGO.
" It has more Students in attendance than any other Business College in America.
Its great patronage is the result of superior management, the great number of experienced in- structors, and the thoroughness of the work in all departments. Graduates of our best Literary Colleges attend this Institution in large numbers, and are helped to positions as soon as prepared.
Scarcely a day passes that there are not several calls from Business Houses for help. It affords the readiest introduction to business and professional life.

PREFACE.
This, the second volume of the Indiana State Gazetteer and Business Directory, is now: presented to the public with the assurance that it will meet with the same approbation that was accorded to our first volume, and that it will be found correct in the main. It is replete with valuable information that can not fail to benefit the entire business com. munity and prove a valuable source of information to all persons.
The present volume is entirely original. All descriptive and gazetteer matter has been freshly collected and re-written from information recently obtained. The general features of this work comprise a full description of each postoffice in the State, such as the location, population, nearest shipping point, location of nearest bank, township wherein located, distance and geographical direction from the county seat, express and telegraph companies, stage communications, and other statistics showing water power, mining interests and inducements to settlers and manufacturers. The present volume contains- 1,212 pages of printed matter-an increase of 68 pages over the former volume-giving the names of 63,500 business houses, professional men and manufacturers. The map accompanying this work has been corrected up to date, showing all the numerous new railroads within the State, and is, in fact, the latest map issued.
Great care has been taken to make this volume complete in every particular, and we trust that it will meet with the kind approval of our patrons.
The subscription list of 1882 exceeds that of 1880 by over one-third, while the adver- tising department shows a vast increase over that of Volume I, which is the most con- clusive evidence that the work is appreciated and sought after.
Thanks are kindly tendered to those who have rendered assistance in gathering in- formation and statistics, especially the postmasters throughout the State, who have in nearly all cases promptly responded to our communications, and have given the required information. The season of 1882 has been an exceedingly prosperous one to all, as is shown by the bounteous crops throughout the entire State, and we tender our congratula- tions to the entire community upon the substantial business outlook, and trust that the: same state of commercial activity may meet us on the publication of our next volume.
