The village contains 125 inhabitants, and is distant from Knights- ville, the place of shipment, on St. L., V., T. H. & I. R. R., 5 miles. Staves, lumber and wheat are the chief shipments. ATKINSONVILLE. Was settled in 1839. It is situated in Morgan town- ship, Owen county, 10 miles northwest of Spencer, the county seat, banking town and nearest rail approach. ATTICA. The chief commercial town of Fountain county, is an enterprising, thrifty place of 3,000 inhabitants, pleasantly located on the east fork of the Wabash river, 14 miles northwest of Covington court house, and 22 southwest of Lafayette. Attica was settled in 1825, and is now a busy commercial place, surrounded by a rich agricultural district. Its transporta- tion facilities consist of the W. St. L. & P. and C. & B. C. Rys. It is the present north- ern terminus of last mentioned road. The city supports 6 churches - Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Catholic, Christian and Jewish synagogue-one of the finest graded school buildings in the State, 2 hotels, a handsome opera house, 1 public, library, 1 private and 1 national bank, and a weekly newspaper, The Attica Ledger. Its water supply is obtained from a reservoir supplied by natural inexhaustible springs, and is amply sufficient for consumption and fire protection. Prominent among its manufactories are 4 flour mills, a drain tile factory, 1 saw mill, 2 carriage factories, 1 planing mill, 1 brick yard, and 1 foundry.
