HOLYOKE ACADEMY,

LOUISVILLE, KY.
Boarding and Day School for Young Ladies
Chartered by the Legislature of Kentucky with full Collegiate Powers.
The Sixteenth Annual Session begins Monday, September 11, 1882, and ends June 8, 1883. The scheme of education is liberal, and as far as practicable, is arranged on the plan of the University of Virginia, a plan, in accordance with which, many of the institutions of higher culture in the United States have, in the last few years, remodeled their method of study. In the Collegiate Department there are seven schools. Each school being distinct, the pupil may, at her option, become a candidate for graduation in any one or all of them.
The Polytechnic Society of Kentucky has made arrangements for the annual delivery of a Univer- sity Course of Lectures in the Natural Sciences before classes of the girls' schools of Louisville. These lectures will be illustrated- by apparatus of the finest kind. The celebrated Troost Cabinet and Polytechnic Collection of Minerals will be used. This arrangement, together with the apparatus be- longing to the school, enables us to offer advantages to students in the Department of Natural Science not surpassed by any school for young ladies in the United States. Particular attention is given to the study of French, German and Latin, with their relation to the English. Classes in Greek, Spanish and Italian are formed when desired.
ATTRACTIVE SCHOOL HOME.
We have a handsome building, delightfully located in the centre of the most beautiful portion of the city. Surrounded by palatial residences, with extensive grounds and abundant shade trees, the air is as pleasant and pure as in the country. The mansion, recently secured, was planned for a com- modious private dwelling, with all the modern conveniences, and with its large saloon parlors, airy halls and rooms, is admirably adapted for a Select Boarding School. It is carpeted and handsomely furnished throughout, and all the appointments are in keeping with the general design of making this one of the most efficient and thoroughly excellent institutions in the West.
The number of boarding pupils being limited, we are enabled to offer the attractive feature of social intercourse under the guidance of the teachers. Receptions are held at stated times, and the young ladies of the Institution are expected in turn to assume the responsibility of hostess, to receive and entertain the invited guests. These entertainments consist of music, conversation and recita- tions. The refining and beneficial influence of these receptions have been proved by the increased ease and elegance of manner in our pupils.
The expenses of an elegant city home, first-class assistant teachers, prominent lecturers and other advantages of a school of this character, place it beyond our power to compete in prices with country and village schools. But we have made our terms as moderate as possible, and claim that the ad- ditional advantages offered more than compensate for the difference in price.
Terms, for Annual Session.
For Day Pupils, Tuition, according to Class, from $50 to $100. For Boarding Pupils, Board, Lights and Tuition in Latin and English Course, $300.
