DALE. Is a thrifty village of 400 inhabitants, located on E. Div., L. E. & St. L. R. R., in Carter township, Spencer county, 20 miles north of Rockport, the county seat. This is the location of Meth- odist, United Brethren and Presbyterian churches, a graded school, 2 hotels, a cooper shop, 1 flour mill, and 2 coal mines. DECATUR. An incorporated town of 2,500 inhabitants, the county seat of Ad- ams county, is pleasantly located on the St. Mary's river, at crossing of T., C. &. St. L. and G. R. & I. R. R's, 21 miles south of Fort Wayne, 138 northeast of Indianapolis, and 70 north of Richmond. This town de- rives its chief support from the fertile and productive agricultural district by which it is surrounded. It has good county build- ings, fine business blocks, handsome resi- dences, is free from debt, and contains sev- eral churches, good schools, the Adams County Bank, 2 newspapers-Democrat and Journal-and 3 hotels. Prominent among last mentioned is the well known Burt
House, Dick C. Townsend, proprietor, which has the reputation of being one of the best hotels in Northern Indiana. Its manufac- tories, while not great in number, are quite extensive and substantial, and include a woolen mill, 3 saw mills, 2 stirrup facto- ries, 3 flour mills, 3 stave factories, and 2 planing mills.
