LAWRENCEVILLE. Dates as a settlement from 1818, and is located in Jackson township, Dearborn county, 20 miles northwest of Lawrenceburgh, the county seat, and 12 southwest of Brook- ville, the location of nearest bank. Sun- man, distant 4 miles, on the C., I., St. L. & C. R. R., is the usual shipping station. The village contains 200 inhabitants, and supports 1 Methodist church. Francis Busald, postmaster. LEAVENWORTH. This incor- porated town of 1,000 inhabitants, the county seat of Crawford county, is pleas- antly located on the Ohio river, 60 miles. below Louisville and 140 above Evansville. The famous Wyandotte Cave is located 5 miles northeast of the town, on Blue river, and as this is the nearest Ohio river land- ing, it derives considerable support from tourists visiting the Cave, which is well worth an inspection. Nearest bank at New Albany. It has Methodist and Presbyterian churches, a graded school, good county buildings, 3 hotels and a weekly newspaper -Crawford County Democrat. The Ouer- backer Hotel is the most prominent house here, and offers excellent accommodations. Other prominent features here, 4 saw mills, a woolen mill and a boat-building estab- lishment. Adams Ex. LEBANON. The county seat of Boone county, is a prosperous, incorporated city of 3,000 inhabitants, located on the C., I., St. L. & C. R. R., 27 miles northwest of Indianapolis, and 36 southwest of Lafayette. It was settled in 1830, incorporated a city in 1878, and now contains 5 churches, 1 opera house, a high school building, 5 ho- tels, telephone exchange, 2 national banks, and 3 weekly newspapers-Patriot, Pio- neer and National Greenbacker. The princi- pal buildings are the court house, high
school building, opera house and jail. Leb- anon is entirely free from bonded debt, and has the following manufactories: 3 saw mills, 1 plow handle factory, 2 planing mills, 1 machine shop, 2 stave and heading factories, 1 brick yard and 1 flour mill.
