SCOTTSBURGH. The seat of justice for Scott county, is a village contain- ing 500 inhabitants, located on the J., M. & I. R. R., 80 miles south of Indianapolis and 30 north of Louisville. This is compara- tively a new place. It was established in 1874 and the court house was built in 1877- 78, it is steadily growing and now contains a Methodist church, 1 graded school and 2 hotels. SEYMOUR. This flourishing incor- porated city of 4,500 inhabitants is pleas- antly located at crossing of J., M. & I. and O. M. R. R's, in Jackson township and county, 11 miles east of Brownstown, the county seat, 87 west of Cincinnati, 59 south of Indianapolis, 51 north of Louisville, and 104 east of Vincennes. The location of the O. & M. railway shops at this point adds very much to its population and commerce. In addition to these extensive works it con- tains 2 planing mills, a spoke and grain cradle factory, 2 flour mills, woolen mill, barrel hoop factory, furniture factory, and 1 carriage factory. The city has good busi- ness blocks, comfortable residences, is lighted by gas, and contains several churches of different religious denominations, good public schools, 1 opera house, 1 bank, and several hotels. The press is represented by 1 daily-The Local Lever-and 4 week- ly newspapers-Democrat, Republican, Item and The Times. Seymour is in an excel- lent financial condition, has a good muni- cipal government, and, with her unexcelled rail facilities, is an important point for the location of any class of manufacturing industry.
