HOPE. This flourishing village of 1,000 inhabitants, is pleasantly located in -
Haw Creek township, Bartholomew county, 14 miles northeast of Columbus, the county seat. The village is entirely free from debt; has real and personal property amounting. to $224,000, and is the location of the well known Moravian Seminary. It contains Methodist and Moravian churches, 1 graded school, 2 hotels, 2 flour mills, a planing mill, 1 drain tile factory, 1 brick yard and 2 saw mills. The Hope Independent repre- sents the press at this point. It has daily stage communication with St. Louis Cross- ing, its shipping station, distant 5 miles, on R. Div. J., M. & I. R.
