9. JULIA A.4 KENDALL, dau. of Joel3, 4, m. in Springfield, Mass., Oct. 15, 1868, by Rev. C. A. Humphreys, to Edwin H. Coolidge, b. in Framing- ham, Mass., Aug. 23, 1840 ; son of Jonathan. F. and Eliza (Haven) Coolidge. He was accidently killed by a gun, Aug. 2, 1881. She was burned to death, Christ- mas evening, Dec. 24, 1881, ae. 43, her clothes taking fire from candles on a Christmas tree. They left two sons, Clarence5 and Clifford5, the only grand- children of Joel Kendall. Mr. Coolidge served 3 years in the Civil War, in the corps of U. S. engineers.
10. ALPHEUS SPARHAWK4 KENDALL, son of A!pheus3, 5, m. in Keene, by Rev. Wm. Orne White, Sept. 5, 1855, to Mary E. Carleton, who was then 21 ; both being then of Charlestown. He was a trader and afterwards lived in Walpole. They had two sons5, b. in Walpole, on Aug. 15, 1856, and Aug. 10, 1859, respectively, whose names were not given in the report.
11. DAUPHIN WARREN+ KENDALL, son of Alpheus3, 5, lived in Keene and Swanzey. He was a mason, as was his father. He d. in Swanzey, Mar. 15, 1886, of tuberculosis. He m., Aug. 11, 1866, in Troy, N. H., by Rev. Daniel Goodhue, to Sophia E. Davis, who was b. in Walpole, N. H., Oct. 30, 1844 ; dau. of Amos and Cynthia (Macombe) Davis, then of Troy. They had three ch. : 1. He d. of disease, at Annapolis, Md., Apr. 28, 1864. 'He was mustered in, Aug. 15, 1862. After his death, his widow m. Elliot J. Davis, q. v., and brought her children to S. with her and lived at 119, in the old Jacob Spaulding house. Mr. Kenerson m. Sarah Toombs Broughton, b. in Goshen, N. H., Jan. 3, 1836; d. in Westmore- land, Feb. 28, 1890; dau. of Benjamin and Marian (Libby) Broughton. They had three ch., all b. in Claremont : 1. Ida Jane3. b., Jan. 9, 1858; m. Edward W. She was the widow of John2 Kennard, who was b. in Cornish, Me., July 4, 1797, the son of John1 Kennard. John2, Jr., and Charlotte (Horn) Kennard had three ch .: 1. Sarah 3 (called Sally), who d. unm. ; 2. Eleanor Fane3, who m. Lorenzo W. Mason, q. v. ; and 3. Lucy H.3, 2. The Kennards lived in Brighton, Me., and Willington, Me. We do not extend the notice of the family beyond those who came to S. John Kennard, Jr., d. in Brighton, Me., Apr. 1853.
2. MISS LUCY HELEN3 KENNARD, b. in Willington, Me., June 9, 1837, the dau. of John2 and Charlotte (Horn) Kennard, 1, was for 28 years the housekeeper of Kimball D. Webster, M. D. in Gilsum. After the latter's death, she moved to S., and has lived several years at 229, where she now (1911) res.

Volunteer Sharpshooters ; enlisted from Keene, Aug. 28, 1861 ; mustered out at Petersburg, Va., Sept. 9, 1864. He m. in 1865, at Ludlow, Vt., by Rev. Ira Pearsons, Persis Ruth Rice, b. at Bellows Falls, Vt., Apr. 23, 1847 ; still living (1911) at West Swanzey, N. H. ; dau. of George W. and Mary E. (Smith) Rice. V. JONATHAN5 KINGSBURY, JR., his son, b. in Needham, Mass., in 1744; d. in 1816. He m. Jemima Skinner, b. in 1745 ; dau. of Elemayer and Joanna (Bacon) Skinner. He was a surveyor, wheelwright, and a soldier of the Revolution.
1. JAMES6 KINGSBURY, son of Jonathan5, Jr., and Jemima (Skinner) Kingsbury, was b. in Needham, Mass., Oct. 1768, and d. there, February 1852. He m. in Swanzey, N. II., Jan. 2, 1794, by Rev. E. Goddard, to Sarah Cresson, b. in Swanzey, Oct. 4, 1772 ; d. in Needham, Mass., in 1845; dau. of Thomas, Jr., and Mary (Hill) Cresson. He owned the Isaac Rawson farm (174) May 14, 1796 to Aug. 21, 1797. He owned a half of the Gibbs farm, at 206, Mar. 9, 1796 to May 14, 1801 (his brother John owning the other half, Mar. 21, 1798 to May 20, 1801). He also owned the old Maynard place at 201, Oct. 28, 1801, to Sept. 9, 1802. He was a farmer in S., Gilsum, and Surry, finally moving to Needham, Mass., where he died. He also took out a license as an inn-keeper. In Surry, he was also a trader. He had eight ch. : 1. Thomas7, b. probably in Surry. 2. 2. JOHN" KINGSBURY, son of Jonathan5, V., b. in Needham, Mass., Oct. 5, 1772 ; d. in Newton, Mass., Feb. 14, 1861. He m. ab. 1799 or 1800, Thankful White, dau. of Benjamin and Lois White. She was b. about 1770, but we know no more of her birth and nothing of her death. Before his mar- riage, he lived at 206, in S., with his brother James. They kept an inn. In a deed of 1801, he is called of Brookline, Mass. Possibly his eldest ch. was b. there. He had nine. According to the published Kingsbury genealogy, they were all b. in Newton, Mass. They were : 1. 6. CHARLES FRANKLINS KINGSBURY, son of William7, 3, studied at Norwich University, Vt., 1848-1851 ; studied also at Woodsville; and took his degree of M. I). at Dartmouth, in 1855. He practised in Stoddard, Lyme, and other places, and d. at West Medford, Mass., Feb. 13, 1911. He m., Oct. 28, 1857, Sarah Ann Pierce, b. in Cavendish, Vt., June 21, 1836; dau. of Nathaniel B. and Eliza Ann (Fiske) Pierce. He had one ch., Ella Sarah Kingsbury?, b. in Stoddard, Oct. 29, 1858. She is the wife of J. Walter Bean, M. D. of West Medford, Mass., where Mrs. Kingsbury is still living (1911).
7. JOHN& KINGSBURY, son of William7, 3, m., Oct. 28, 1852, Mary Ursula Smith, b. in Alstead, Apr. 2, 1826; dau. of Ralph Emerson and Abiab (Hale) Smith. They res. in Surry and had one ch.

deacon in Walpole, Mass. Late in life, he studied divinity somewhat and acted as a lay preacher in several towns in New Hampshire and Vermont. He d. in Rindge, June 10, 1827. He m. Ist, in Walpole, Mass., Dec. 1, 1768, Abigail Sawin, who d. in Rindge, Oct. 6, 1793. He m. 2d, in S., by Roswell Hubbard, Esq., Sept. 2, 1794, Lucretia Locke, b. in Townsend (now Ashby), Mass., Apr. 9, 1756; d. in Temple, N. H., Nov. 6, 1843; dau. of Lieut. James and Hannah (Farnsworth) Locke of Sullivan. She was a lady of much force of character. As Dea. Kingsbury never lived in S., we give only the names of the ch. of his first wife. They were Joseph 6, Abigail6 (d. young), Abigail 6, Jackson6, Jedidah 6, Nancy 6, Benjamin 6, and Mary6. His second wife was a S. woman and we notice her ch. more fully. She had three: I. II, 1840, Anna Hazen of Shirley, Mass. ; b. there, June 8, 1800; d. there, Oct. 7, 1862; dau. of Thomas and Anna (Crocker) Hazen. He studied at Middlebury College and at Harvard University, and grad. at the medical depart- ment of Bowdoin College in 1829. He visited Cuba and taught in the South. He m. in Rindge, by Rev. Seth Payson, Feb. 18, 1796, Rebecca Thompson, b. in Rindge, Dec. 19, 1773; d. in S., at 121, at the home of her dau., Mrs. Dexter Spaulding, Apr. 27, 1850; dau. of Richard and Rebecca (Eaton) Thompson. 1793; d. in Newport, N. H., many years ago; dau. of Dea. Zadok and Betsey (Brown) Nims. Their only ch. was Harriet E.8, 3, b. in Alstead, May 20, 1829.
3. HARRIET E.& KINGSBURY, dau. of Benjamin7, 2, d. in Newport, N. H., Feb. 21, 1873. She m., June 23, 1853, Hon. Albert Scripture Wait, b. in Chester, Vt., Apr. 21, 1821; d. in Newport, N. H., Oct. 7, 1906; son of Gen. Daniel and Cynthia (Read) Wait. He studied law with Hon. Daniel Kellogg, at Saxton's River, Vt. and was admitted to the bar at Newfane, Vt., Apr. 1846. He began the practice of the law at Alstead, but moved to Newport in May 1857. He received an honorary A. M. from Dartmouth in 1865. He was of the firm of Burke and Wait. He was an able lawyer and very prominent in Free- masonry. He had been the Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar in New Hampshire and held many offices of high Masonic rank. He had been married before his marriage to Miss Kingsbury, and was again married after her death. Harriet E. had no ch.
4. GEORGES KINGSBURY, grandson of Joseph6, 1, was b. in Concord, Mass., Nov. 2, 1829. His earlier years were passed with his uncle, Benjamin Kingsbury, 2, in Alstead. After his mother became the second wife of Dexter Spaulding, q. v., he became one of Mr. Spaulding's household until his marriage. He learned the trade of a carpenter of Dexter Spaulding and the latter's son Dauphin. Soon after his marriage, he built the carpenter's shop at 43, in S. He m., Sept. 9, 1852, Hannah Elvira Hale, b. in Hudson, N. H., Feb. 18, 1835 ; d. in S., at 44, July 25, 1904. Mr. and Mrs. Kingsbury were an honored couple in the town. They celebrated their golden wedding, Sept. 9, 1902, and their house at 44, in which they lived all these years, and which he built, was well filled with guests, many of whom came from a great distance. Mr. Kingsbury was the town clerk for several years. After his wife's death, he boarded for different lengths of time with Mrs. Chase, at 31 ; Mr. Shoults, at 7; and Mrs. Jenkins, then living at 32, at which latter house he d., Jan. 26, 1911. Mr. and Mrs. Kingsbury had no ch., but received into the family as their daughter, a little girl whose surname was LaBonté (usually called Good) whose name they changed by law to Etta Elvira Kingsbury? (see under LaBonté), 5. She was b. in S., at 172, Oct. 25, 1857.
