I. According to Hayward's History of Gilsum, JOHN GIBERSON2 BOODY came to this country, from Germany, at four years of age, with his father1. The father's name is not known, but his wife was Abigail, and they settled in Cum- berland County, New Jersey. II. JOHN3 BOODY, son of John G.2, m. Phebe Dare and r. in Milville, N. J.

1. WALLACE2 MELVIN BOUTELL (last name sometimes written Boutwell), b. in Haverhill, Mass., Sept. 10, 1852, was the son of Wm.1 and Susan E. (Splaine) Boutell (or Boutwell). He m., Oct. 7, 1875, Harriet Betsey Cram, dau. of Albert and Lucilva Ann (Corey) Cram. Her father was the son of Cornelius Towne of Dublin, but took the name of Cram because he passed his youth in the family of Josiah Cram of Hancock. Wallace is a laborer; r. in Antrim and S. He went to S. in April, 1895, and worked in the Hastings mill. He remained a short time, living in the house at 20, where Lyman Davis lives. There were five ch. when the record was taken, all b. in Antrim : I. Hattie Sophia3, b., Sept. 13, 1876; d. in Antrim, Sept. 24, 1878; 2. Susan Ermina3, b .. Sept. 11, 1880; 3. GEORGE ALVAN2 BOYLE, b. in Keene, Oct. 25, 1832; still living in Keene in 1909; son of Wm.1 and Betsey (Rugg) Boyle; a soldier of the Civil War; m., Jan. 13, 1880, in New Haven, Conn., Emily Maria Greene, b. in Alstead, March 3, 1843, still living in 1909; dau. of John V. and Philena Bliss (Shepherd) Greene. He is a general laborer. They lived in S., from May 24 to Oct. 28, in 1904, upon the Barnes place in S., at 119, and from Oct. 28, 1904 to Jan. 1, 1906, in the house of Mrs. Bemis, at 45, in S. Two ch. : 1. Robert Walter3, b. in Springfield, Mass., Dec. 25, 1880; unm. in 1909, a stationary engineer, employed while in S. at the portable steam-mill of G. Polzer & Co., also a fire- man upon the railroad, having suffered the amputation of a thumb, on Apr. 10, 1909, as a result of burning it upon his locomotive. 2. Richard Eaton3, b. in Drewsville (Walpole), July 7, 1884; unm. in 1909. On the evening of Oct. 31, 1904, Mrs. Boyle was seriously bitten by a dog at the house of Mr. S. S. White in S. Mr. White was also bitten by the dog on the same evening. The animal was immediately killed. It had appeared cross, but had not been considered dangerous. Mrs. Boyle remained two months in the house of Mr. White, whose family kindly cared for her until her recovery. Her wound was upon the right leg. Mr. White's wound was upon the hand, which troubled him all of the following winter.

I. JOHNI BOYNTON, from England, settled in Rowley, Mass., in 1638. He m. Ellen (or Eleanor) Pell of Boston, Mass. II. JOSEPH2 BOYNTON, son of John1, b. in Rowley about 1644; m. Ist, Sarah Swan, 2d, Elizabeth Wood; moved to Groton in 1715, returned to Rowley and d. there, Dec. 16, 1730. III. JOSEPH3 BOYNTON, Jr .. b. in Rowley, Mar. 23, 1669/70; m. Bridget Harris ; d. in Rowley, Nov. 25, 1755. He was son of Joseph2 and Sarah. IV. EPHRAIM4 BOYNTON, son of Joseph3, Jr., b. in Rowley, July 16, 1707 ; moved to Chocksett (Sterling), Mass .; m. Sarah Stewart.

EPHRAIM BOYNTON, son of Ephraim4 and Sarah (Stewart) Boynton, b. at Rowley, Mass., March 9, 17345; d. in S., at 176, Feb. 9, 1826 ; m., Feb, 19, 1756, Abigail Emery of Newbury, b. in Woodstock, Conn., June 2, 1737 ; d. in S., at 176, Nov. 28, 1827 ; dau. of David and Abigail (Chase) Emery. He was in Winchendon, Mass., before 1762, and went from there into the Revolution. He moved to Sterling, and was in Fitzwilliam before 1778. He and his wife finally came to S., and lived and d. at 176, in the house of their son, David Emery Boynton. We know of three ch .: I. David Emery6, 2, b. in Woodstock, Conn., Sept. 24, 1757 ; 2. Irena6. b. in Winchendon, Mass., Dec. 9, 1760 (sic, correcting other published dates of her birth); nı. Wm. Farrar, q. v. ; 3. Jonathan6, b. in Winchendon, Aug. 1, 1766, of whom we have no further particulars. COL. JOHN' BOYNTON, who once lived north of 176, across the line, in Gilsum, was a brother of Ephraim5.


2. DAVID EMERY6 BOYNTON, son of Ephraim5, 1, bought the farm at 176 in 1796 and moved there in the year following. He owned the farm at 99 between two and three years, 1808-1811. We stated under that paragraph in the FAMILY HISTORIES, that probably Mr. Boynton lived a short time at 99.

Further investigation leads to the conclusion that Mr. Boynton bought the place for the accommodation of his brother-in-law, Stephen Pierce, q. v., but lived him- self at 176, until his death there, Oct. 23, 1836. He was a good farmer and raised a large family of children. He m. Ist, in Sturbridge, Mass., Sept. 23, 1784, Chloe Faulkner, b. in Sturbridge, Sept. 27, 1765; d. there, Jan. 21, 1785; dau. of Daniel and Sarah (Shumway) Faulkner. Morris and his father were both soldiers of the Revolution. David Emery8 Boynton and his father, Ephraim5, were both soldiers of the Revolution. I. WILLIAM1 BRADFORD, of Austerfield, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, England, was buried, Jan. 10, 159%. He was a kinsman of Rev. John Bradford who was burned at the stake in Queen Mary's reign. The latter had no ch., and was not the ancestor of the New England Bradfords, as has been supposed. II. WILLIAM2 BRADFORD, Jr., buried at Austerfield, July 15, 1591, m. Alice, dau. of John Hanson. III. WILLIAM3 BRADFORD, 3d, b. at Austerfield, Mar. 29, 1588 ; a Mayflower passenger ; signed the compact in the cabin of the May- flower, Dec. 7, 1620; second governor of Plymouth Colony ; d. in Plymouth, May 9, 1657 ; m. Ist, Dorothy May, who fell overboard from the Mayflower and was drowned in the harbor near Plymouth ; m. 2d, Alice (Carpenter) Southworth. IV. They lived on the Col. Hubbard, afterward the D. Adams Nims place, at 170. They owned the place a few years. Rev. Moses8 Bradford, son of William? and Mary (Cleveland) Bradford, was b. in Canterbury, Conn., Aug. 6, 1765; gr. at Dartmouth in 1785 (see page 595) ; m. Ist, Nov. 4, 1788, Dorothy Bradstreet, dau. of Moses of Rowley, where she d. of consumption, June 24, 1792; m. 2d, Apr. 4, 1793, Sarah Eaton of Francestown, N. H., b. in Pelham, N. H., Mar. 9, 1772 ; d. in Montague, Mass., Feb. 15, 1848; dau. of Moses and Anna (Webster) Eaton. Mr. Bradford had two or three sons who were clergymen and one who was a physician. 1. SARAH MARIA4 BREED, a sister of Mrs. Asa E. Wilson and of the first wife of Lucius Nims, lived much in their families in S., at 36 and 22. She was b. in Nelson, July 23, 1823, and d. in Boston, Mar. 7, 1899; dau. of Nathaniel3, 3d, and Nancy (Whitney) Breed; gr. dau. of Nathaniel2 Breed, Jr., who was a son of Dr. Nathaniel1 Breed, first settler of what is now the town of Nelson. She was well educated and a successful school teacher and an accom- plished lady. She m., in Boston, Sept. 28, 1854, Marshall Whitney, b. in Harvard, Mass., Apr. 9, 1809; d. in Boston, July 22, 1882; son of Rueben and Milly (Pollard) Whitney. Published genealogies err in some of the dates respecting Mr. Whitney. She had no ch. Mr. Whitney had a son by a former wife, who lost his life in the ocean, by either accidentally drowning, or, as some think, by being bitten by a shark.


2. GERMAN NEWTON' BREED, a nephew of the preceding, and a son of Henry4 and Maria (Wilson) Breed, was b. in Peterborough, June 27, 1835 ; enlisted, Aug. 21, 1861, in the 5th N. H. Vols. in the Civil War, as a sergeant. He d. of disease, at Fairfax Court House, Va., Mar. 27, 1862. He was unm. His mother was a sister of Dea. Asa E. Wilson, in whose home he lived consid- erably when a boy, at 36.

EZRA2 BRIDGE, a son of this emigrant, b. in Keene, Feb, 13, 1767; d. there, Sept. 5, 1813; m., Dec. 10, 1799, Betsey Farwell, b. in Bethel, Me., Feb. 11, 1777; m. Daniel Nash of Gilsum for her 2d husband; outlived him, and d. in Keene, Apr. 12, 1853. The ch. of Ezra Bridge were Francis3 Lewis3, Ora3, Nahum3, Lucys (m. George Eveleth of Rox- bury), and Ezra Kendall3. III. LEWIS3 BRIDGE, son of Ezra2, II., b. in Keene, Nov. 2, 1801 ; d. in Gilsum, Apr. 1, 1879; m., Nov. 8, 1831, Martha Phillips, b. in Keene, Feb. 9, 1812 ; d. in Gilsum, Mar. 31, 1902 ; dau. of James and Matilda (Smith) Phillips. They lived in Keene and Gilsum. Among their ch. was Lewis4, Fr., 2, b. in Keene, June 7, 1836. IV. EZRA KENDALLS BRIDGE, another son of Ezra2, II., b. in Keene, m. Nancy Rebecca Crossfield. Among their ch. were Horace Hubbard 4, b. in Dublin, Sept. 10, 1844, and Frank Wilbur4, b. in Roxbury, Jan. 25, 1859.

NAHUM3 BRIDGE, son of Ezra2, II., b. in Keene, Oct. 1, 1808 (ac. to Keene records) ; d. in S., at 32, Jan. 23, 1892 ; m., Mar. 3, 1840, Sarah Haseltine, b. in Weston, Vt., June 13, 1809; d. in S., at 32, May 15, 1892 ; dau. of Follans- bee and Sarah (Heald) Haseltine. Mr. Bridge was a shoemaker ; lost a leg ; see pages 374 and 796. No ch .; but an adopted dau., Sarah Abby, was b. in Keene, Sept. 30, 1851 ; m., July 4, 1866, Gustavus Lyman Kimball of Nelson, b. there, 1839; d. in Pomona, Cal., Dec. 29, 1895, ae. 56; son of James and Harriet (Bancroft) Kimball. They lived in Nelson, where she d., June 3, 1869, leaving

a son, Osmond L. Kimball, who was b. in Nelson, Aug. 17, 1868, and r. in Glens Falls, N. Y. Gustavus was m. a second time.


2. LEWIS4 BRIDGE, JR., son of Lewis3, III., lived in Keene; also in S., from 1881 to his death in 1898, at first at 31, afterwards, in the last days of Mr. and Mrs. Nahum Bridge, in their house at 32, caring for them. Lewis4, Jr., d. in Ashuelot, where he was employed, Nov. 1, 1898. His widow remained a year longer at 32. She was Julia Deborah Stetson, b. in Winchester, May 7, 1840; living (1909) in Keene; dau. of George and Eunice (Wise) Stetson. She was m. to Mr. Bridge, Jan. 15, 1861. They had no ch., but adopted, without change of name, Edward Lyman Gay, b. in Keene, May 26, 1874. See Edward Lyman Gay, in these genealogies.


3. HORACE H.4 BRIDGE, son of Ezra K.3, IV., m., Oct. 17, 1878, Chloe Angelia Dunn, b. in S., Mar. 1, 1854 ; dau. of Justus P. and Chloe (Marsh) Dunn ; lived in Roxbury and Keene; farmer. Three ch. : I. Lulu Angelia5, b. in Rox- bury, Dec. 16, 1879; unm. in 1909. 2. Lena Ray5, b. in Roxbury, May 8, 1881; m., May 3, 1905, Prescott Solomon Buckminster, b. in Roxbury, Aug. 17, 1879; son of Charles Winslow and Emma Harris (Phillips) Buckminster; one ch. : Kenneth Bridge6, b. in Concord, N. H., Sept. 25, 1907. 3. Eva Belles, b. in Roxbury, Aug. 6, 1885; m., Sept. 5, 1906, Warren Edward Lawrence, b. in Winchester, Feb. 4, 1884; son of Chas. Perkins and Martha Louisa (Bourne) Lawrence; r. in Keene; no ch. in 1909. 4. An informally adopted son, called Karl Colman Bridge, b. in Keene, Apr. 9, 1892 (exact day of birth being some- what uncertain).


4. FRANK W.4 BRIDGE, son of Ezra K.3, IV., m., Jan. I, 1882 (correct- ing the date given in the marriage list), Hattie Ann Dunn, b. in S., Sept. 25, 1860; dau. of Justus P. and Chloe (Marsh) Dunn. They have lived in S., Keene, and Nelson. In S., they lived at 51, in the Dunn house at 122, in the Bond house at 30, and (1895-1902) in the house at 31, where Mrs. Chase lives. Six ch .: 1.
