Martha Hill Temple, b. in Marlborough, Jan. 24, 1811 ; d. in Westminster, Vt., Mar. 18, 1871 ; dau. of Thomas and Jane (Banks) Temple. Mr. Metcalf went to Gilsum about 1830, and lived there many years. He and his wife joined the Mormon church in Gilsum. He was a blacksmith. In 1848, he moved to Sullivan, and lived about a year in the Alonzo Mason house at 3. He returned to Gilsum in a little more than a year. He was the first man who worked in the blacksmith shop at East Sullivan, at II, which had been erected by neighbors, on land belonging to the Goodnows, and was afterwards purchased by L. H. Smith. LAURA ANN (DAVIS) [RICH] MILES, b. in the State of New York (the town -not known to her dau.), Sept. 5, 1843 ; d. at East Sullivan, July 12, 1903, at the house of her dau., Mrs. Nelson Castor, at 51. She was the dau. of Amasa and Ann (Coombs) Davis. She m. Ist, Charles Adams Rich, a native of Winchester, N. H. She m. 2d, Erastus Cutler, who lived in Vermont, in the towns of Barre, Waterbury, and Cabot. She m. 3d, Wesley F. Miles, whose widow she was at her death. She had three ch .. I. Bert C. Rich of East Whitman, Mass., who has one son and two daughters; 2. Frank A. Rich of Phillipston, Mass., who has two sons and two daughters ; 3. Laura Mabel Rich, b. in Richmond, July 24, 1868, who m. Nelson Castor, q. v. As Mrs. Miles was not a legal resident of the town, we shall not attempt any genealogy of her family. She happened to spend her last days with her daughter, and her body was buried in the Meetinghouse Cemetery.

1. MOSES MOODY, the son of Benjamin1 and Abigail (George) Moody, was b. in Landaff, Feb. 4, 1804; d. in Keene, Dec. 13, 1845; burial in the Court St. Cemetery. He was a farmer and lived in Haverhill, N. H., Landaff, Alstead, and Keene. After his death, at the comparatively early age of 41 yrs., Io mos., and 9 days, his widow became the second wife of Jacob Spaulding of Sullivan, and brought her surviving children to his home, at 119, which was their home until they married. Her maiden name was Betsey Watson Howe. She was the dau. of William and Sarah or Sally (Harrington) Howe of Alstead. She was b. in Northborough, Mass., Feb. 27, 1805, and was m. to Mr. Moody, May 20, 1826, and to Jacob Spaulding, q. v., Oct. 16, 1849. She d. in S., at 45, July 19, 1888, and her body was buried in the Court St. Cemetery in Keene, by that of her former husband. Mr. and Mrs. Moody had five ch. : I. Florilla Elizabeth 3, b. in Haverhill, N. H., Jan. 6, 1828; m. Daniel H. Joy, q. v. ; 2. Dearborn Sanborn3, b. in Landaff, Feb. 4, 1831 ; d. there, Jan. 28, 1839 ; 3. 2. JAMES S.3 MOODY, son of Moses2, 1, was a shoemaker by trade, and worked in several Massachusetts towns, including Danvers, Stoneham, and Haverhill; residing, finally, in Bradford. He was in the Civil War, in Co. L of the old Sixth Mass. Vols. ; also in Co. C, 50th Mass. Vols. He entered the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, at Togus, Me., where he d., Sept. 5, 1892. He m. (pub., Sept. 19, 1853) Eliza Jane Gray, a native of Reading, Mass., who d. in Bradford, Mass., Mar. 2, 1911 ; dau. of John and Nancy (Good- win) Gray. They had six ch., five of whom died very young : 1. Charles Henry4, b. in Danvers, Mass., Feb. 26, 1854; d. there, May 26, 1854; 2. Flora Eliza- beth 4, 3, b. in Stoneham, Mass., July 25, 1856. 3. Walter4, 4. Henry4, 5. Ada4, 6. Elmert. The last four were all born in Stoneham, and died there.


3. FLORA E.4 MOODY, dau. of James S.8, 2, m., May 24, 1874, Charles Edward Blake, b. in Exeter, N. H., June 1, 1854; son of Edwin F. and Elizabeth A. (Sleeper) Blake. He is a barber and they are living (1912) in Bradford, Mass. One ch. : Elizabeth Maudes, b. in Haverhill, Mass., Sept. 16, 1877 ; m., Jan. 16, 1900, Charles Milton Wildes, b. in Georgetown, Mass., Jan. 25, 1874; son of John Milton and Catherine Elizabeth (Furbush) Wildes. He is a commercial traveller. They res. in Bradford, Mass., and have no ch. (1912).

MOREY.


1. JEREMY1 MOREY lived in S., from 1856 to 1869, on the Alonzo Mason place, at 3, and finally with the family of Malachi Barnes, at 119, where he d. in the early part of 1877. Although his death was so recent, the strictest search has been fruitless in the effort to find the month and day. He was a soldier in the War of 1812. He is supposed to have been born in Andover, N. H. We have not yet discovered the date of his birth, nor his parentage, nor the date of his marriage. He m. Rebecca Lovejoy, who was b. in Packers- field (now Nelson), May 4, 1803; d. in S., at 3, Nov. 6, 1869; dau. of Capt. Jonathan and Lydia (Breed) Lovejoy. They lived several years in Boston, Mass., but moved to S. from Andover, N. H. They had four ch., two of whom were still-born males. The others were : I. Albert Lovejoy 2, 2, b. in Boston, Mass., in 1834; 2. Angelette E.2, b. in Boston, Sept. 1838; d. there, Aug. 16, 1839. Her body was buried in the Centre (Boston Common) Cemetery, in lot (or tomb) 23. The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Morey are in the East Sullivan Cemetery, in graves as yet unmarked.
