1. THOMAS' BEALS, as he spelled his last name, lived in S., from 1791 to 1798, at 21, nearly on the spot where Hon. D. W. Rugg now lives. We can- not trace the ancestry of Mr. Beals (or Beels, as the name was often written). He m., Apr. 23, 1792, Charlotte, daughter of Timothy Root and Prudence De Wolf (or Dolph, as the name is usually improperly written) b., Dec. 5, 1773, in Westford, Mass., (according to the manuscript Gilsum records, not Westfield, as Hayward's Gilsum has it). Her mother married John Dimick, Jr., hence Charlotte is called Charlotte Dimick in the marriage list. We do not know what became of this family after leaving S. They had two ch. in S. ; I. Francis", b., Jan. 28, 1793; 2. Samuel“, b., Nov. 11, 1794; both b. at 21.

He m. in Keene, by Rev. Dr. Eaton, Dec. 20, 1877, Alzina Luretta Howard, b. in Gilsum, May 22, 1861 ; dau. of Horace Wm. and Rhoda Alzina (Barron) Howard. He came to East S., in 1881, and worked in the mills, and bought the house at 47 in 1883, where he lived until 1904, when he moved to Keene, after having lived in town 23 years. He had seven ch; I. Erving A3., b. in Keene, July 11, 1878; d. in Roxbury, June 5, 1881. 2. Edith May3, b. in Roxbury, Apr. 16, 1879; m. in Keene, June 29, 1901, by Rev. E. P. Drew of that city, Harry J. Caldwell, b. in Alstead, May 8, 1877 ; son of George J. and Ida (Frye) Caldwell. He was killed in Keene, June 30, 1904, by a heavy ceiling falling upon him, while engaged in taking down old buildings preparatory to erecting the Chamberlain building. 1. KARLEY2 BELDING (or Carley Belding) was a son of Stephen1 and Martha Belding of Winchester. The latter bought the farm now known as the Proctor place, at 252, in 1790 and owned it four years. Karley Belding and Eunice, his wife, had one ch. born here, Stephen Johnson Belding3, who was b., Nov. 8, 1792. Stephen1 Belding d. in Winchester, July 3, 1813. His will, made shortly before, mentions nine ch .: Mrs. Hephzibah Wright, Catherine (Mrs. Reuben Dean), Mindwell (Mrs. Elias Martindale), Stephen, Joab, Martha (Mrs. Josiah Stebbins, Jr.), Hannah (Mrs. Sam. Alanson Wood. For a time in 1879-80, he lived in S., in the D. Spaulding, 2d, house, afterwards owned by Mrs. Wood, at 45. They were m. in Marlborough, by Rev. E. B. Burgess. After leaving S., he m. 4th, Angenette, dau. of Mark Tarbox of Nelson. They lived in Munsonville, where she d. several years before his death. No ch. by either wife.

1. ALFRED BENARD and Kate, his wife, lived in town and had a son b. to them, in S., Dec. 21, 1874, probably at 208. Benard was a laborer.
BENSON.
1. EBENEZER BENSON of Brookline, Vt., m. Nov. 25, 1817, Lucinda Bolster of S., b. there, Apr. 13, 1796; dau. of Nathan and Chloe (Keith) Bolster. On Aug. 22, 1822, Mr. Benson, then said to be of Walpole, took a deed of his father-in-law, Nathan Bolster, of the lot whose house was at 124. He may have lived there two or three years. It is more probable that Eastman Bolster lived there. No ch. of Ebenezer Benson are known to have been b. in S. We cannot learn more particulars of this family.

Daniel Wright, who was a famous military man, who went into the Revolution from Gilsum, moved to the state of New York, became a brigadier general in the militia of that state and was conspicuous in the command of land forces at the battle of Plattsburg.

Mrs. Beverstock m. 2d, May 9, 1848, James Parker of Nelson, by whom she had four ch : Clinton, Flora L. (Mrs. Thomas F. Burns), Frank Newton, and Frank Walter (the latter two dying young). The record of this Parker family does not properly belong to S. Mrs. Parker m. 3d, June 10, 1868, Martin Willard McIntire, who d. in Nelson, May 22, 1875.
