JOSHUA4 OSGOOD, son of the preceding, b., Sept. 2, 1694, most probably in Andover, Mass .; d. in Lancaster, Mass., Jan. 31, 1783 ; m., Dec. 20, 1722, Ruth Divoll, who d., May 28, 1782 ; dau. of William and Ruth Divoll. V. JOSHUA® OSGOOD, Jr., son of the preceding, lived in Leominster, Mass. He m., Jan. 2, 1747, Lucy Carter, b. in Lancaster, Aug. 18, 1727; dau. of Samuel and Jemima (Houghton) Carter. He d. in Leominster, March 10, 1760 ; and she m. 2d, June 6, 1764, Gideon Ellis of Keene, N. H. The published Osgood genealogy, by an egregious blunder, merges the family of this Joshua with that of his father, as if the latter were the parent of the former's children.

1. JOSHUA OSGOOD, 3d, son of Joshua5, Jr., and Lucy (Carter) Osgood, was b. in Leominster, Mass., Aug. 19, 1749; d. in S., at 247, July 28, 1828. Hem., October 1772, Mary (or Polly) Batcheller, b. ab. 1745; d. in S., at 247, May 25, 1832, ae. 86. He was one of the earliest settlers upon the soil of what is now Sullivan, at 247. He bought the place, May 1, 1772, of Jeremiah Stiles of Keene, who had erected a dwelling-house upon the place, in which he had doubtless lived, although he had owned it only about two years. Mr. Osgood lived here more than half a century, tlll his death, and developed an excellent farm and raised a very large family. His ch. were nine, all b. on this farm, at 247: 1. Zephaniah", b., Aug. 18, 1773; d., at 247, March 5, 1778: 2. Joshua™, b., Feb. 17, 1775, 2; 3. John7, b., Jan. 28, 1778, 3; 4. Iddo7, b., Dec. 9, 1779, 4 ; 5. Roswell7, b., March 2, 1782, 5; 6. Mary? (Polly), b., July 2, 1783, 6 ; 7. Breed1, b., Apr. 6, 1785, 7; 8. Zephaniah7, b., Feb. 5, 1787, 8; 9. Nahum7, b., Oct. 5, 1788, 9. The dates here given correct the dates in the published Osgood and White genealogies, which are remarkably erroneous in this branch of the family. Mrs. Osgood was dau. of John and Elizabeth Batcheller and a sister of the noted tory Breed Batcheller, first settler of Packersfield (on a spot now in Roxbury).

2. JOSHUA7 OSGOOD, 4th, son of Joshua6, 3d, 1, d. in Rutland, Vt., Oct. 4, 1833. He was a blacksmith in that place. He m., April 6, 1806, Lucy Kingsley of that town, who d. there, January 1874. 3. JOHN7 OSGOOD, son of Joshua6, 3d, 1, was a tailor in Keene, where he d., April 7, 1828. The date on certain records has been erroneously given as April 27. He m., Oct. 2, 1822, in Keene, by Rev. Z. S. Barstow, to Sarah (Sally) Sturtevant, b. in Plympton, Mass., Aug. 19, 1777 ; d. in Keene, May 6, 1856; dau. of Cornelius and Sarah (Bosworth) Sturtevant. They had no ch.
