He m. 2d, Nov. 23, 1841, Lucy Stiles of Keene, b., Oct. 16, 1804 ; d., Dec. 4, 1885, in Keene, where he also d., Jan. 5, 1870. His only ch. was Harriet Elizas, b. in Keene, May 1847; d. there, Aug. 27, 1861.


4. LOUISA7 BROWN, dau. of Amasa6, 1, m. Obed Dort, b. in Surry, Apr. 6, 1804 ; d. in Keene, Jan. 9, 1894 ; son of Eli and Joanna (Newton) Dort. The date of his birth is given erroneously in several historical works. The Surry town records give the very precise date, " Friday morning, Apr. 6, 1804." She d. in Keene, Jan. 25, 1885. VI. JOSEPH BROWN FAMILY.


1. The man who was known as " JOE. BROWN," who lived at 3 and 94, was properly called BRUNO THEBERGE. His son, called PETER BROWN, is properly PIERRE THEBERGE. Look for this family under Theberge. Another son, called CHARLES BROWN, must be sought under CHARLES THEBERGE. The name of Brown was improperly given to these people, although the name is now well fastened upon the family and may eventually supplant the true name.

He m. 2d, in Keene, Dec. 27, 1898, by Leonard Wellington, J. P., Ella Dora (Lamphrey) Longever, b. in Lyme, N. H., Jan. II, 1866; dau. of Charles Nelson and Betsey (Stetson) Lamphrey, and formerly the wife of Wm. Longever, q. v. Ezra has had no ch. She had two by Wm. Longever, q. v.


2. WILLIAM GILBERT2 BROWN, son of Wm. M.1 and Caroline J. (Peters) Brown, and a brother of Ezra2, 1., was born in some town in Canada, Nov. 2, 1880; m., Sept. 19, 1899, Elsie Mary Howe, b. in Marlow, Dec. 10, 1882 ; dau. of George A. and Nellie Maria (Peck) Howe. He m. 2d, Aug. 8, 1903, in Boston, Mass., Charlotte LeCain, b. at Round Hill, Nova Scotia, Feb. 16, 1879; dau. of Andrew and Emma (Sanders) LeCain. He is a painter in Boston. 8. CHARLES W.º BUCKMINSTER, son of Miles S.8, 5, lived several years in Keene, then a few years upon the Henry (or " Harry ") Nims farm in Roxbury, near East S., and he used the East S. post office and his children

BUCKNAM.


1. JAMES A. BUCKNAM, from Easton, Mass., according to the deed, purchased the Keith farm, at 138, in 1876, and remained a year upon it. The deed ran to his wife, Mrs. Mary E. F. Bucknam. They had no ch., as we remem- ber the facts, at that time, and were a comparatively young married couple. Mrs. Bucknam was probably Mary E. F. Clarke, as her mother, Mrs. Sophronia A. Clarke, died at her house, Dec. 25, 1876, ae. 57. The Bucknams sold the farm to Ira E. Chase in 1877. We have learned no further particulars about them. See Sophronia A. Clarke.

ELBRIDGE HARDING2 BULLARD, son of Appleton1 and Heph- zibah (Harding) Bullard, was b. in Holliston, Mass., Feb. 17, 1836; d. in Medford, Mass., May 10, 1896; a real estate man and broker, having an office in Keene, at the same time living and farming some upon the Buckminster farm, at 24, from 1871 to 1879, afterwards living in Somerville and Medford, Mass. He m., Nov. 23, 1867, in Boston, by Rev. Mr. Thompson, rector of St. James (Roman Catholic) parish, Elizabeth Ellen (Hayes) Thompson, b. in Boston, May 28, 1843; still living (1909) in Medford, Mass. ; widow of Wm. Thompson, and dau. of John and Ellen (Crowley) Hayes. Six ch .: 1. William Appleton Serapion3, b. in Keene, at the Eagle Hotel, Oct. 30, 1868; m., Sept. 5, 1895, Elizabeth Brown Ryder, b. in Brownville, Me., Sept. 5, 1871; dau. of Eben and Sophia (Felton) Ryder. He is a slate dealer, with an office in the Tremont Building, Boston, Mass., and r. on Kidder Ave., in Somerville, Mass. He has two ch. : I. Cecilia4, b. in Portland, Me., Sept. 4, 1896; 2. Isaiah Appleton4 b. in West Somerville, Mass., Aug. 31, 1904. 2. William Harding Chrysostom3, b. in S., at 24, Jan. 27, 1872. He is a travelling salesman and r. in Winthrop, Mass. He m. Herbert Philip3, b. in Somerville, Mass., July 22, 1880 ; m. Grace Rosier and has a ch., Calvin4; r. in Newark, N. J. Mr. Elbridge H. Bullard was a private in the 38th Mass. Vols. in the Civil War. Mrs. Bullard's former h. was William Thompson, whom she married, May 15, 1862. He was also in the Civil War and died in the army, Aug. 14, 1864, s. p.


BUMFORD.


1. WILLIAM2 .BUMFORD, usually called Willie Cunningham, was the son of Arthurl and Adora (Cunningham) Bumford, and b. in Keene, Mar. 4, 1887. His mother died in Stoddard, at the Chandler (later Wood) mill, Mar. 13, 1888, in the midst of that terrific snow storm, still well remembered, having just given birth to another child which did not live, when William was a little over a year old. The snow was so deep that no team could approach the house. Men carried the coffin in their hands following the course of Otter River. Dea. A. C. Ellis of S. offered a prayer, and the grave was dug near the house. Adora was b. in Unity, Nov. 25, 1861, the dau. of Robert and Hannah Rosetta (Marshall) Cunningham. We have not traced Arthur Bumford. His mother is said to have m. a Herrick for her second h. Arthur never lived in S. The son, WILLIAM BUMFORD, m., Dec. 17, 1907, Charity Maria Ellis of Roxbury ; b. there, Dec. 19, 1884; dau. of George and Marian (Eveleth) Ellis. As a boy, he lived with his grandmother Cunningham, in 1902, in the Lovisa Kingsbury house, at 117. After his marriage, he lived for a time, in 1908, (moving in, June 20), in the same house. He had no ch. when the record was taken. Charity had two when she married him, both b. in Roxbury, known as I. George Carl Ellis, b. Dec. 7, 1903 ; and 2. Myron A. Ellis, b. Feb. 26, 1906.


BURDETT.


I. HERVEYÌ BURDETT, m. Laura Louisa Cobb. He lived in Gardner, Mass., and in the Raymond house at the south end of Marlow. He was b., June II, 1794, and d. in Keene, July 1, 1879, ae. 85 yrs. and 20 days. His son, William Edgar2 Burdett, 1, was b. in Gardner, Mass., Feb. 5, 1852.
