was b. July 19, 1837, son of Hon. Levi S. and Mary (Wilson) Chatfield (Hon. Levi S. Chatfield was at one time the Attorney General of New York). Sarah's ch. were: 1. Guy Levi11 Chatfield, b. Cambridge, N. Y., June 8, 1869; d. in New York City, Aug. 14, 1890. He had passed ex- aminations for West Point, but failed in the physical examination, on account of a swelling in his throat which suddenly developed. He was in the engineer corps which started for Nicaragua, under Menocal; was taken ill at Greytown, and returned to New York City where he died. 2. Mary Effingham11 Chatfield, b. New York City, Oct. 16, 1870. The following may or may not pertain to the Mary Chatfield of this family. "A certain "Mollie" Chatfield, an artist, was found dead in her studio, in New York City, on the afternoon of Dec. 29, 1913, with a steel paper-cutter driven through her heart. Apparently it was a case of suicide. Miss Chatfield was 50 years old and a bookbinder, who worked on rare editions for wealthy collectors. She left a short note charging a woman she named with responsibility for her act, but giv- ing no other explanation. She was identified as a member of a well known New York family, once wealthy, but now in reduced circum- stances." 3. Jessica11 Chatfield, b. Hoosick Falls, N. TUBBS.
ANANIAS TUBBS paid a poll, land and building tax in Sul. in 1794. ZECHARIAH TUBBS (perhaps a brother) paid a poll tax and a tax on horse and cows in 1793. Keene records have notice of Zechariah TUFTS (if I catch the right spelling) who m. Polly Wash- burn, both of Keene, Oct. 2, 1783, by Thomas Baker, J. P. There is a bare possibility either that the Keene man was really Zechariah Tubbs or that the Sullivan man was Zechariah Tufts. The chirography may be illegible or the original clerks may in one or the other case have been in error.
