WILLIAM FREDERICK ROWE, b. at Harrisville, (formerly Dublin), July 10, 1873, son of Walter B. F. and Harriet Eliza (Yardley) Rowe, is unm. (1916). On Oct. 28, 1907, he purchased of Mr. Wellman the old Jacob Spaulding place in S., at 119. He moved into the house, Nov. 1, 1908, and lived there alone for a year or longer, then sold the place. He now res. in Harrisville. He has worked in various towns.

JACOB1 RUDZINSKY, b. in Kierszevicz, Poland, m. Fannie Darsuniszkis, a native of the same place. They came to America early in the twentieth century. Their Christian names are here given in the English spelling. They lived, in 1904, in the Lovisa Kingsbury house, in S., at 117. They had a son, Frank 2 Rudzinsky, b. in Kierszevicz, Poland, Sept. 15, 1888. He was a bright, capable boy and had learned English quite rapidly. The father and son were choppers, working near the lumber camp in the north part of the town. They had some Polish choppers as boarders.

was b. at Sowerby, Halifax Parish, England, March 11, 1632 ; d. at Lancaster, Mass., Jan. 24, 1655-6. He m. 2d, May 4, 1660, Hannah Prescott, sister of the former wife. She was killed, Sept. 11, 1697, in the massacre at Lancaster, by the Indians, upon that day, in " King William's War ". Her son Joseph, with his wife and three ch., shared the same awful fate. In the published list of the victims, Hannah is called the widow of John Rugg. His estate was in- ventoried, Jan. 19, 1697-8. He had probably died a few months before, in 1697. Martha had two ch., twins, who died at or near birth. Hannah had nine ch. II. DANIEL2 RUGG, son of the preceding, b. in Concord, Mass. (where his father lived a few years), Nov. 17, 1678; d. in Lancaster, Mass., June 23, 1758 ; m. Jan. 5, 1703-4, in Concord, Mass., Elizabeth Priest, who was probably dau. of John Priest, whose estate was inventoried in 1704. Mrs. Rugg d. in Lancaster, Dec. 3, 1754. Mr. Rugg belonged to a company organized to protect the town against the Indians and was prominent in town affairs. III. NATHAN3 RUGG, son of the preceding, was b. in or near Lancaster, and was bap., Nov. 30, 1718. He d. in Lancaster, Mass., Sept. 15, 1786, ae. 68. He m., Nov. 12, 1741, Zerviah Frost of Groton, Mass., b. there, March 20, 1719-20. She was dau. of. John and Ruth Frost. She d. in Lancaster, April 8, 1807. Nathan Rugg lived in Lancaster and had eight ch., all b. in that town.
1. ELIJAH4 RUGG, son of Nathan3, b. in Lancaster, Mass., April 4, 1753; d. there, May 1, 1810. He res. in Sterling, Mass., in S., and Lancaster, Mass. He came from Sterling to S., in 1796. His wife brought her little dau. Lucy, afterwards Mrs. Asa Ellis, in her arms, on horseback. They settled at 127, on what we have since called the Pompey Woodward place, where they lived a few years. 3. HARRISON RUGG, son of Elijah4, 1, was a farmer in S., on the farm at the end of the " Kendall Lane", at 145, where he d., May 25, 1859. He m., June 30, 1824, in Alstead, by Rev. Seth Arnold, Sophia Beverstock, b. in Alstead, April 30, 1808; d. at East Sullivan, at the house of her son, Hon. D. W. Rugg, at 22, April 16, 1900. She was the dau. of Daniel and Lucinda (Bingham) Beverstock. Mr. Rugg was a captain in the old Sullivan militia company. He was promoted to the rank of major, but declined the proffered honor. He was a man of the strictest integrity of character, industrious, and frugal, and was greatly respected in the community. He had six ch. who grew to maturity : 1. 5. HORACE KENDALL6 RUGG, son of Harrison5, 3, was a good farmer in Langdon and Acworth. He served his country faithfully in the Civil War. He was a strictly honest and industrious man, much respected. He d. in Acworth, May 14, 1911. IIe m. Ist, in Keene, by Rev. W. O. White, Jan. 30, 1856, Clarissa Keith, b. in Cabot, Vt., June 24, 1831 ; d. in Acworth, March 17, 1867; dau. of Bezaleel and Mary (Farwell) Keith of Sullivan. She was a well educated lady, who had taught successfully many terms of district schools. Her intellectual abilities were appreciated by those who knew her. She was, on two occasions, injured by strokes of lightning, resulting, finally, in an almost complete loss of physical power. Mr. Rugg m. 2d, June 14, 1870, Mary Lestina Chatterton of Acworth, b. there, Dec. 11, 1846; d. there, Feb. 28, 1889; dau. of Alpheus and Esther (Richardson) Chatterton. She was also an educated and refined lady, whose mental accomplishments were appreciated by a large circle of friends. Mr. Rugg had one ch. by each wife: 1. GARDNER HARRISON6 RUGG, son of Harrison5, 3, went to the West when a young man and res. in Morrison, Ill., and Carbondale, Ill., where he d., April 21, 1866, from the effects of maladies contracted in the Civil War. He served in the 38th Reg., Illinois Vols. He was remembered in Sullivan as a young man of the purest character, gentle and kind to all. He m., in Morrison, Ill., by Rev. D. W. Linn, Jan. 21, 1857, Elizabeth Jackson, b. in Chesterville, Ohio, May 27, 1833; still living (1916) in Stafford, Kansas ; dau. of Aaron Case and Charity Ann (Young) Jackson. 7. HON. DANIEL WILLARD RUGG, son of Harrison5, 3, is a farmer, still living, 1916, in his native town, where he has always res. At his marriage, he settled upon the old homestead, at 145, where he lived nearly eleven years. In 1869, he built a house near East Sullivan, at 41. In less than two years later, this house was destroyed by fire, with a large part of its con- tents. Mr. Rugg then lived in the village of East Sullivan a short time, at 33. In 1876, he purchased the McIntire place, at 26, where Q. B. Nash now (1916) lives. Mr. Rugg lived here ten years, until the middle of June in 1886, when

he moved into the house at 22 (the former Lucius Nims house), where he now resides. Mr. Rugg has been very prominent in the affairs of the town. He has held all the important offices, has represented the town in the General Court, and is the only person who, while a resident of the town, was elected to the state senate. He is a man of the utmost integrity and has always been most deeply interested in all that pertains to the town's best interests. He was twice married. He m. ist, Dec. 23, 1858, Elvira Davis, b. in Stoddard, Sept. 3, 1838; d. there, at her mother's house, Sept. 20, 1871 ; dau. of Marcus and Lydia Lane (Wilson) Davis. He m. 2d, Nov. 14, 1872, Rosabelle Susan Davis of Stoddard; b. there, Oct. 24, 1845; d. in S., at 22, March 4, 1909; dau. of Asa and Sophronia (Gould) Davis. She had been a schoolteacher and was a well educated and refined lady, very highly esteemed in social circles. Mr. Rugg had one ch., by the former wife: I. Arthur Harrison7, b. in S., at 145, Sept. 26, 1863, 16.
8. ELLERY EDWARD6 RUGG, son of Harrison5, 3, was a farmer, blacksmith, and carpenter. He res. in S. and Keene. In S., he built the house at 39, at East Sullivan, in 1866. It was the old Ellsworth Hubbard house, which had stood at 171, removed to 39 and rebuilt. He operated the blacksmith-shop that stood at 11, afterwards operated by Lyman Davis. Mr. Rugg had lived in Alstead three years before he built this house. He sold this house in 1881. He afterwards lived in Keene. His last residence in that city was on Park Avenue, where he built a fine house. For many of the later years of his life he gave up blacksmithing and followed carpentry. He was employed, for a time, at the Symonds tannery in West Keene. He d. in Keene, March 30, 1914. He was twice married. He m. ist, Jan. 1, 1863, in Keene, by Rev. I. C. Knowlton, to Sabrina Simonds Barrett, b. in Stoddard, Dec. 27, 1837 ; d. in Keene, Sept. 25, 1885; dau. of Luther and Mary (Green) Barrett. He m. 2d, Nov. 12, 1889, in Keene, by Rev. C. E. He m., Nov. 19, 186t, Lucy Ann Richardson of Stoddard ; b. there, Sept. 3, 1843; dau. of Luther and Lucy Tryphena (Dunn) Richardson. She is still living in Mason City, Iowa. They have had no ch., but have received into their home as a daughter Thelma Louise Blish, b. in Meriden, N. HI., Aug. 8, 1904; dau. of George R. and Grace (Lake) Blish. She is known as Thelma Louise Rugg.
