A man named JONAS STEVENS lived on the "Houghton Road," in a house between the Keene road and Mr. Houghton's, where Benjamin Kemp Jr., afterwards lived. I note this here as it was not noted under the Allen family (q. v.) Jonas and Mary Stevens had five ch., as follows: Mary S., Sarah F., Alonzo A., Franklin, Augustus.

STILES.

CAPT. JEREMIAH STILES of Keene, m. in Keene, Dec. 13, 1768, Mary Sanger of Keene. There is some question about it, but he proba- bly lived in Sullivan for a time. He was the first highway surveyor, chosen at the first town meeting. He sold to Joshua Osgood the farm (then in Keene) where Roswell Osgood lived many years. It is probable that Mr. Stiles built and lived in the dwelling house which the deed describes as standing on the place when Mr. Osgood bought it. The Sangers owned considerable land in what is now Sul.
