H., where he d., May 28, 1879. He m., Sept. 2, 1835, Mary Ann Colburn Jewett of Rindge, where she was b., Sept. 28, 1807; the dau. of Dea. Stephen and Nancy (Colburn) Jewett. She d. in Marlborough, Aug. 4, 1885. They had but one ch., Sarah Ann Jewett 8, b. in S., at 71, Aug. 6, 1838; d., Mar. 15, 1857, at South Hadley, Mass., a student at the Mt. Holyoke Female Seminary. She was a young lady of much promise.
17. JOHN LOCKE, M. D., son of Samuel Barron6, 6, was grad. at the Yale Med. School, 1819. He was. an eminent scientist. He was many years a professor of chemistry and pharmacy in the Medical College of Ohio at Cin- cinnati. He was long employed by the government in exploring and surveying land. He was the inventor of the celebrated " electro chronograph clock," for which Congress voted him $10,000 in 1849, for the use of the instrument in the Naval Observatory.
