Transferred to Motor Truck Company No. 542 and received overseas training. Sailed overseas September 28, 1918, on the H. M. T. Caronia. Sent to Mars Hospital Center, where he served as Company Clerk until June 1, 1919, when he was transferred to the em- barkation camp at St. Nazaire for return to the United States. Dis- charged July 3, 1919, at Camp Dix, New Jersey.


ROBERT BRUCE EVANS


Chief Gunner's Mate, Naval Aviation, United States Navy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Evans, 312 South State street, Springfield. Born April 3, 1894. Entered service July 2, 1917. Received his training at Naval Training Station, Norfolk, Virginia. Sailed overseas in November, 1917. Trained further at Paimboeuf, France; Uxbridge, England, and Mouchie Lacanan Gironde, France. Was at the latter place when the Armistice was signed, practising flying as an observer. Sent back to the United States in February, 1919, and was stationed at Naval Air Station, Charleston, South Carolina, and Naval Air Station at Camp Glenn, North Carolina. While here he was given a rating as Chief Gunner's Mate. Discharged in July, 1919, at Great Lakes.
