OTTO HARRISON EVANS


C. M., First Class, United States Navy. Son of Robert J. and Louisa Evans, 312 South State street, Springfield, Ill. Born September 10, 1891, in Elkhart, Ill. En- listed in the navy in February, 1914. Served on board the U. S. S. Raleigh. The Raleigh was engaged in convoy duty during 1917. In February, 1918, while the Raleigh was stationed at a Brazilian port, Otto Harrison Evans, then in the Naval Reserves, took passage on the Collier Cyclops, bound for France, and then for the United States, to come home on furlough. He perished when the Cyclops was lost at sea.

En- tered service March 17, 1918, in Spring- field, Ill. Received his training at Ft. Screven, Ga. Sailed overseas in September, 1918, on the H. M. S. Otranto. October 6, 1918, off the coast of Ireland, the Otranto was rammed in a fog by the H. M. S. Kashmir. Sergeant Hill gave his life in rescuing comrades in the ship hospi- tal, having made possible the escape of forty-five sick comrades from the hospital deck of the vessel.

Private, Tenth Company, Second Air Service Mechan'c Regiment, U. S. A. Son of Everett Masterson, 842 South Spring street, Springfield, Ill. Born February 16, 1890, in Monroe county, Mo. Entered service December 15, 1917, in Springfield, Ill. Received his training at Camp Han- cock, Ga. Sailed overseas on the Lev'athan, arriving in England March 12, 1918. Sta- tioned near Paris, France. Contracted tuberculosis of the stomach in August, 1918, and was in Hospital at Dijon, France, when the Armistice was signed. Returned to United States February 15, 1919, and was sent to Camp Wadsworth, S. C. Died March 6, 1919, at Camp Wadsworth, S. C. Gold Star Father, Everett Masterson.

Wagoner, 123rd Field Artillery, ( Heavy Field Artillery), 58th Artillery Brigade, U. S. A. Son of George M. and Mary Cordelia Morgan, 342 South Douglas ave- nue, Springfield, Ill. Born December 13, 1898, in Springfield, 111. Entered service May 22, 1917, as Wagoner in Supply Com- pany, Sixth Illinois Infantry. Received his training at Camp Lowden, Ill., and Camp Logan, Houston, Tex., where his organization was changed to 123rd Field Artillery, 58th Field Artillery Brigade. Sailed overseas May 27, 1918. In action at St. Mihiel, and on the way to Meuse- Argonne Offensive, on the Verdun Front, became ill with influenza-pneumonia. Died September 23, 1918, at Base Hospital No. +2, Bazoilles, France. Buried in American Cemetery No. 6, Bazoilles, France.

Born July 13, 1898, in Springfield, Ill. Entered service in April, 1917, with Troop D, First Illinois Cavalry. Received his training at Camp Lowden, Springfield, Ill., and Camp Logan, Houston, Tex., where organization became part of Thirty-third Division. Sa'led overseas May 26, 1918. In action at St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne. Killed in action November 5, 1918, while carrying wounded comrade from field. Cited by General Pershing, Major General George Bell, Jr., and Brigadier General H. D. Todd. Awarded Distinguished Service Medal and Croix de Guerre.
