Entered service June 1, 1918, in Spring- field. Received training at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. and Camp Joseph E. Johnston, Fla. Sailed overseas August 14, 1918, on the Aeolus. As- signed to Salvage Depot of Base Section No. 1, St. Nazaire, France, and was there when the Armistice was signed. During April, 1919, re- ceived injury to right hand and was sent to Base Hospital No. 101, and then to United States as casual. Sent to hospital in Newport News, and then to Camp Grant, where he was discharged July 10, 1919.
