Was a member of Company C, Fifth National Guards, and was called into Federal Service in August, 1917. Received his train- ing at Camp Logan, Houston, Texas. Sailed overseas May 16, 1918, on the Mount Vernon. Was in action in the Somme Offensive, Meuse- Argonne, Amiens, Toule Sector, Butgneville, Troyon Sector. Was gassed and in Base Hospital in France, when the Armistice was signed. Dis- charged in May, 1919, at Camp Grant.


THOMAS E. COONEY


Seaman, First Class, United States Navy. Son of Michael and Bridget Cooney, of Springfield. Born April 11, 1896, in Springfield. Address, 428 Williams Boulevard, Springfield. Entered service April 30, 1917, in Springfield. Served on the Montana. Was at Commonwealth Pier, Boston, Massachusetts, when the Armistice was signed.


ROY LINCOLN COOPER


Mechanic, Third School Battery, Field Artillery, Central Officers' Train- ing School, U. S. A. Son of Zeroy and Mary Cooper, 1103 North Rut- ledge street, Springfield. Born December 27, 1888, in Canby, Minnesota. Entered the service June 26, 1918, in Springfield. Received training at Camp Taylor, Kentucky, and was there when the Armistice was signed. Discharged December 6, 1918, at Camp Taylor.


STANLEY A. COOPER


Fireman, United States Navy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Cooper, 1232 Peoria Road, Springfield. Born April 17, 1892. Entered service May 1, 1918. Received his training at Great Lakes Naval Station, and at Philadelphia Navy Yards. Sailed overseas for the first time in December, 1918. Was on the ocean when the Armistice was signed. Discharged September 25, 1919, at Norfolk, Virginia.

Received his training at Great Lakes Naval Station and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Served on board the Alabama and the Von Stueben. Discharged in May, 1919, at Hoboken, New Jersey.


EARL F. CORBETT


Private, Medical Department, 130th Infantry, Thirty-third Division, U. S. A. Son of Mary Rose Corbett, 1810 South Spring street, Spring- field. Born August 1, 1895, in Divernon. Entered service May 19, 1917, in Springfield. Received his training at Camp Logan, Houston. Texas. Sailed overseas in May, 1918, on the Agamemnon. In action in the Argonne Offensive and on the Amiens Front. Was gassed and in Hospital No. 24, Vietel, France, when the Armistice was signed. Dis- charged February 14, 1919, at Camp Grant, Illinois.


BENJAMIN F. CORDER


Private, Aviation, U. S. A. Son of Frank Corder, 642 North Fourth street, Springfield. Born January 9, 1899, in Coles County. Entered service January 3, 1918, in Springfield. Received his training at Kelly Field, Camp McArthur, Camp Greene, Camp Jackson, Camp Bragg. Was at Camp Jackson when the Armistice was signed. Discharged at Camp Grant, June 1, 1919.


FRANK CORLAS


Private, F. A. R. R., U. S. A. Son of Mrs. Pauline Herschle, 1805 South Fifteenth street, Springfield. Born August 30, 1899, in Springfield. Entered the service July 5, 1918, in Springfield. Received his training at Camp Taylor, Kentucky, and Jefferson Barracks. Sailed overseas October 28, 1918, on the Monter. Was stationed at Camps Hill, Hunt and De Souge, France. Was at South Hampton, England, when the Armistice was signed. Discharged May 29, 1919, at Camp Grant, Illinois.

Engineman, Second Class, United States Navy. Son of John and Alta May Cornish, 1921 North Ninth street, Springfield. Born November 12, 1897. Entered the service July 29, 1918, in Peoria. Received his training at Great Lakes Naval Station, Training Station, Norfolk, Vir- ginia, and the U. S. S. Illinois. Sailed overseas November 19, 1918, on the U. S. S. Munio. Was in Yorktown, Virginia, when the Armistice was signed. Discharged July 8, 1919, at Great Lakes.

Received his training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. In January, 1918, was assigned to service aboardship, serving on the U. S. S. Rhode Island, the U. S. S. Sun Oil, and the U. S. S. Mayflower. Was in a battle between two submarines on the Coast of Cape Hatteras, August 27, 1918. Was at sea in the Gulf of Mexico when the Armistice was signed. Discharged July 9, 1919.
