Received his training at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Sailed over- seas May 19, 1918, on the Leviathan. Stationed at Camp De Meucon, France, and at First Aid Hospital, near firing line. On August 17, 1918, left hospital to min- ister to one of his men, who had fallen on the field, and, while ministering to him, re- ceived wound from shell in left shoulder and penetrating to the heart. Died a few hours later from wound. Received Ameri- can War Cross for Distinguished Service.

Volunteered with a few other soldiers, on September 28, 1918, to capture a machine gun nest on Hill No. 243, located about three hun- dred yards southwest of Cierges, France. Struck by piece of shrapnel and instantly killed. Buried near Cierges, France.

CURTIS LYMAN HODGEN
Sergeant Curtis Lyman Hodgen, son of Amos Hodgen, 2306 South Tenth street, Springfield, Ill. Born August 13, 1895. Sergeant Hodgen had served four years in the Medical Department of the U. S. Navy, receiving his discharge at the end of this time, and in October, 1917, entered service in the U. S. Army at Camp Travis, Tex., where he was placed in the Medical Department of the U. S. A. Died October 21, 1918.
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN KINCAID
Saddler, Troop B, 15th Cavalry, United States Regular Army. Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Kin- caid, 801 South Lincoln avenue, Springfield, Ill. Born September 10, 1880, in Athens, Ill. Enlisted in Regular Cavalry December 21, 1901. Stationed in Philippine Islands seventeen years. Returned to United States in February, 1918, and sailed for - France March 10, 1918. Died of influenza-pneu- monia March 19, 1918, two days before landing at Brest, France.

Corporal, Company I, 129th Infantry, Thirty-third Division, U. S. A. Son of M. W. and Elizabeth Kniery, Litchfield, Ill. Born April 4, 1891, in Springfield, Ill. Entered service October 5, 1917, in Alton, Ill. Received his training at Camp Tay- lor, Ky., Camp Logan, Houston, Tex., and Camp Upton, N. J. Sailed overseas May 5, 1918. Wounded while in action in Argonne Forest, Octo- ber 10, 1918. Died October 11, .1918, and was buried in American Cemetery, Senon court, Meuse, France.

AMOS McDEVITT
Private, Company L, 147th Infantry, 37th Division, U. S. A. Son of James and Ella McDevitt, Loami, Ill. Born June 7, 1890, in Sangamon county, Ill. Entered service April 29, 1918, in Springfield, Ill. Received his training at Camp Dix, N. J., and Camp Lee, Va. Sailed overseas June 21, 1918, on the Caserta. In action on Alsace-Lorraine Front and Meuse-Argonne. Wounded in action by ma- chine gun fire, September 26, 1918, near Bar-le- Duc, and died a few hours later in Field Hospital, of peritonitis.

JOSEPH CLARENCE PATTERSON
Private, Infantry, U. S. A. Son of William W. and Ella L. Patterson. Born February 19, 1890, in Scott county, Ill. Prior to World War, served in Regular Army. Entered service in May, 1918. Owing to his previous military service, did not train, but sailed overseas in May, 1918. Was near Troyon-sur-Meuse, France, when the Armistice was signed. Died in service.
