Seaman, United States Navy. Son of Mary E. Casten, 315 East Union street, Springfield. Born December 26, 1888, at Carlinville. Entered the service December 14, 1917, in Springfield. Received his training at Great Lakes Training Station; Hampton Roads, Virginia; Naval Train- ing Station, Newport, Rhode Island; Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, Virginia. Was at Hampton Roads when the Armistice was signed. Dis- charged December 27, 1918.


CLARENCE D. CASTEN


Private, 681st Aerial Squadron, U. S. A. Son of Mrs. Mary E. Casten, 315 East Union street, Springfield. Born February 10, 1892, in Glen Carbon. Entered the service June 20, 1918, in Springfield. Received his training at Training School, Kansas City, Missouri; Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas. Was at the latter when the Armistice was signed. Dis- charged January 29, 1919.


LEWIS EDWARD CASTER


Bugler, Battery A, 124th Field Artillery, Thirty-third Division. Son of Edward and Sivilla Caster, 1515 Pennsylvania avenue, Springfield. Born November 16, 1897, in Ray, Illinois. Entered service June, 1916, with Troop D of the First Illinois Cavalry. Served with this organization on the border. When Troop D became Battery A, re-entered service, and trained at Camp Logan, Houston, Texas. Discharged later because of ear trouble.


THOMAS FREDERICK CATHERWOOD


Seaman, First Class, United States Navy. Son of Mrs. Elizabeth J. Catherwood, 621 West Washington street, Springfield. Born November 19, 1895. Entered service April 3, 1917. Received his training at Great Lakes Naval Station. In January, 1918, was transferred to U. S. S. Recruit, on recruiting duty in New York City. Sailed overseas May 1, 1918, on the U. S. S. Bridgeport.

JOHN WILLIAM CATLIN


Second Lieutenant, Motor Transportation Corps, Company 31, U. S. A. Son of C. C. and Susan C. Catlin, 804 North Seventh street, Springfield. Born March 29, 1886. Entered service June 15, 1918, in Springfield. Received his training at Rahe Auto School, Camp Joseph E. Johnston, Florida. Was at Camp Joseph E. Johnston when the Armistice was signed. Discharged December 17, 1918, and immediately re-enlisted for five years in the Officers' Reserve and given commission of Second Lieu- tenant, Motor Transportation Corps.


HARRY C. CHAMBERS


Regimental Supply Sergeant, U. S. A. Son of Mrs. Irene M. Chambers, 2141 South Tenth street, Springfield. Born September 20, 1898, in Chicago, Illinois. Entered the service July 5, 1918, in Springfield. Re- ceived his training at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, and Camp Zachary Taylor, Kentucky. Discharged at Camp Taylor January 3, 1919.

Private, Company E, 303rd Engineers, 78th Division, U. S. A. Son of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Chambers, 630 West Herndon street, Springfield. Born September 27, 1894, in Springfield. Entered service April 29, 1918, in Springfield. Received his training at Camp Dix, New Jersey. Sailed overseas May 15, 1918. In action in the Argonne Offensive, St. Mihiel Drive. In action in the Argonne when the Armistice was signed. Dis- charged June 15, 1919, at Camp Grant, Illinois.


HARRY EDGAR CHANDLER


Private, Company 30, R. R. Transportation, United States Army. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles O. Chandler, 706 East Miller street, Spring- field. Born September 25, 1887, in Clinton, Illinois. Entered service May 27, 1918, in Springfield. Received his training at Camp Gordon, Georgia. Sailed overseas July 22, 1918, on the H. M. S. Beltana. Sta- tioned in Gieveres, France, and was there when the Armistice was signed. Discharged July 9, 1919, at Camp Grant, Illinois.
