Received his training at Paris Island, South Carolina, and Quantico, Virginia. Sailed overseas September 26, 1918, on the U. S. S. Henderson. Stationed at Brest, France, and at St. Suplice, France, where he was on guard duty at a military prison. Later sent with a Convoy of food supplies into the interior. Rejoined his company, remaining on Guard Duty, until April 19, 1919, when he again went with a Convoy to Paris. In service at time of writing.

Was wounded by bayonet, but returned to duty in Ar- gonne Forest in August. In September, was detailed for intelligence ser- vice on the Soissons Front, and sustained machine gun wound in left thigh and fracture of left foot. Invalided home from Brest, November 9, 1918, and discharged January 28, 1919, at Camp Grant, Illinois.

Major, Medical Department, United States Army. Son of Mrs. E. C. Gaffney, 1427 East Adams street, Springfield. Born August 13, 1884. in Springfield. Address, Lincoln, Illinois. Entered service in April, 1917. Received his training at Fort Riley, Kansas. Was assigned to Richfield, Waco, Texas, as sanitary officer. Upon completion of the camp, was given charge of Hospital, with rank of Major. Was at Waco, Tex., when the Armistice was signed. Discharged in March, 1919, at Waco, Tex.
LAWRENCE A. GAFFNEY
Private, C. O. T. S., U. S. A. Son of Mrs. E. C. Gaffney, 1427 East Adams street, Springfield. Born September 3, 1887, in Springfield Entered the service September 1, 1918. Transferred to Camp Grant, Illinois. Sailed overseas September 15, 1918, with the 803rd Pioneer Infantry. Discharged August 12, 1919, at Camp Grant, Illinois.
