ILLINOIS WATCH COMPANY BAND
The Illinois Watch Company Band divided duties with the Capital City Band to play for big patriotic meetings and when draft contingents left the city. Cooperating with the Community Band Fund Committee, the band donated one-third of the price for its services to the band fund.
The Illinois Watch Company Band was organized about 1878. Up to 1920 it had never been disbanded or the name changed. Professor Louis Lehmann became leader of the band about 1882, and Bert E. Sutton became manager of the band about 1893, continuing up to and through the time of the World War and subsequently.

In relating the history of Sangamon county's war activities, it must be stated that the first big comprehensive organization to spring into existence was the Sangamon County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Into this organization were drawn the active workers of the county.
Then came the Liberty Loan organization, which drew upon the organization of the Red Cross for its active workers, with some changes in the personnel.
