Entered service February 10, 1917, in Springfield, Ill. Received his training at Port Royal, S. C. and Paris Island, S. C. Sailed overseas October 26, 1917. Went into action March 1, 1918, and received his first wound while in action June 8, 1918. Later took part at Chateau Thierry and St. Mihiel, receiving wounds in both engagements. After the Armistice was signed he was stationed with the Army of Occupation in Luxemburg. Dis- charged May 1, 1919, at Quantico, Va.
